Is the National Billiards League legit, or a scam?

No different than gambling, ANY gambling on pool, during the DCC held IN the Horseshoe casino is against the law in the state of Indiana!!! Its NOT a form of gambling recognized by the state of Indiana, INSIDE a casino.

And yet it goes on EVERY year. When Greg told them he'd pull the event if one person was arreste they backed down. Look pal, i got better things then to argue every little nitty detail of this fantasy of yours. I don't think ONE person on here gives this plan much if any of a chance. Hey, if i'm wrong it won't be first time but i don't think i will be.

Nevada Gaming Commission does not ban betting on pool. Its up to individual casino/books whether to post odds on it.
Neither Fanduel or Draftkings offer wagering on pool matches, in ANY of the states they're licensed to do business in, why not???

I know who he is. Buddy of mine robbed him playing 1p at DCC a couple times. Good guy but kind of a sucker when it comes to pool.
My friend Harry Platis, who IS a lawyer, known by many, has been working his ass off for more than 20 years to get pool recognized as a paramutual wagering sport, and as of today, many states have voted to allow paramutual wagering as a legal form of betting, because it does NOT fall under the laws of gambling, "any game of chance" but even though many states have passed a bill allowing paramutual wagering, NO state has listed pool as a paramutual wagering sport as of today!!

Gambling on pool matches is always going to happen, its the legality of it which is the problem! You're seriously confused between the two different subjects!!!

WTF man. Do you ever read your own shit??? You this big of a a-hole all the time? Abrasive would be a step up for you. You might want to find a somewhat more 'polished' front-man for this endeavour/fantasy 'cause i don't any think corp. ad/marketing exec. who would give you more 30sec.

And Harry's a millionaire, what's your buddy worth? The sucker is the one playing for Harry's entertainment, that's been going on for more than 40 years that I know of, even I've beaten Harry out of some money, last match we played was 14.1 race to 125 for $16k and yes, i won!

Good thing I don't need to ask for your permission first, because you have no idea who I am, who I know, or what I'm really up to. Its funny as hell to me that you can't see your OWN actions, I guess you're blind to how others see YOU!

My state allows wagering on an activity you are engaged in such as golf or pool, plainly defined as legal. On the other hand, even church bingo got outlawed when the casinos came in. Louisiana was warned the casinos would run things but of course didn't listen like every other state making a money grab!

The reason that gambling on pool is not allowed at casinos is nothing to do with legality, all to do with the casinos "losing" money they figure they might otherwise get. A casino doesn't allow gambling on anything but their games. Small poker tournaments got shut down in the state for the same reason, the casinos insisted. Even when the casinos don't plan direct action against wagering they can discourage it mightily!

Glen, you keep thinking it’s laws that hold pool back, or lack of sponsorship, or lack of methods to view.

You can bet with your corner book on anything you want. He doesn’t care about laws.

Access to matches now that the internet has taken over network tv is no problem. If one was inclined they could probably watch pool 24 hrs per day until they died for free on YouTube, or Facebook, etc.

The game is boring. That’s why no one does this. Thats why only us diehards watch.

I just msg'd one of the bigger on-line books. They currently have the WC snooker listed. Said its pretty popular due to the world-wide interest in it. Said they get little-to-no requests for any pool action. When asked if pool's somewhat 'colorful' reputation has anything to do with it they said it probably doesn't help. Maybe since MR is back to running the pool WC there may be some requests for on-line action.

My point is that with golf you don't watch a twosome play 18 holes. You watch the full field as it cuts back and forth between different players and their shots.

To increase viewership, I believe pool could take some lessons from golf .

Of course gambling between to players playing pool is legal, but that has nothing to do with betting through an institution on the sport. And further more, SIDE betting on that pool match IS illegal, because thats considered to be GAMBLING if you're not directly involved in the match, as in one of the players, that gambling falls under the paramutual wagering laws, which IS legal.

Like what, having the choice to watch any one of 8 9ft Diamonds live streamed, viewers choice?

I don't know what the answer is but I do know for the sport to grow it needs to interest casual fans.

Casual fans are not going to watch 2 guys play for hours and hours in a race to whatever. I don't think sticking an overhead camera over every table for viewers to choose which table they want to watch isn't going to bring in those fans either.

This was done on one of the WPA World pool championships within the past 5 years. A camera going over each table, and the webpage allowing the viewer to choose which match they wanted to watch.

It was horrible. No commentary. Fixed camera. No crowds roaring. Boring as anything.

The answer is not more of the same content.

For pool to have a chance to not be boring to watch as a fan, the production has to change completely. The only company doing anything close to that today is Mathroom.

Even Accustats doesn’t do it. They have the same old same old. No history of the players. No struggles the players went through. No flashbacks to prior situations the player at the table faced years ago. No head to head lifetime stats of the players at the table. No stories that the player at the table spent his last 500 to his name to enter this event. Nothing of the human interest element that makes a viewer bond with a player. Mathroom is the only entity doing anything remotely like that.
