Is there a safe way to trade cues?

I have a pool cue up on a Facebook group for sale. I guy messaged me and wants to do a trade. I want to trade him cues, but have never done a trade online like that. The guy doesn't have much up on his Facebook profile, so I am Leary. What if I mail him my cue and he never mails me his? Seems like an easy way to get scammed. What is the best way to make a trade that is safest?? Thanks

How would I even go about finding an escrow party to send the cues to? Thanks
 
I feel that the person who contacts someone and he wants to do a trade then he should be the one to mail his cue first as he is the one who started the negotiation. If he doesn't want to do it, end of deal.
 
Safest way for you is not to ship until you receive and inspect his cue.

If they are unwilling to do that and unwilling to escrow, walk away.
 
escrow with a cuemaker who will make a thorough inspection of each cue's condition and document his findings.

there's a lot more to a trade than just getting the cues in the mail.
 
if you skip escrow and the other guy finds a flaw but wants to keep the cue for some kind of financial consideration on your part, always get your cue back.
 
With all the horror stories about cue sales and cue shipping problems people post here; I doubt I'd consider anything except an "in person" transaction. It's just not worth it. If you're too far to travel to the other party; perhaps meeting half way would work. Pictures of cues leave a lot to chance and if you plan to use it as a player you won't know how it hits without trying it out. Just my $.02!

As stated above:

escrow or face to face.

Depending on value of cue, escrow may not be worth it depending.

Face to face is always a winner, unless of course one of the two is slicker than the other and then somebody will still get screwed so, that leads me back to escrow.

Again, depends on cue value?

Are you referring to Open Billiards Market on Facebook? If so, it is a safe place to do business, you just have to be careful, same as here. I have done dozens of trades on there. They have a subforum called Open Billards Market: Seller/Buyer Transaction report. You go in there and search his name, see what comes back on previous deals he has done. If nothing comes back, then you post a new thread asking who has done business with him. If some reputable people say he is ok, then that is typically a green light, basically the same as the itader here. If nothing come back, then I would pass. Good luck.

There was a time when I agreed to that but there is always a snake laying in wait so, does not matter who contacted who "sometimes".

If everyone was honest then yep, you contact me, you send your cue first.

Unfortunately, everyone is not honest. Also, just because someone has a good rep does not mean you will not be the first one they screw.

Escrow or face to face is really the only truly safe methods this day and time.

Then again, if a cue value is below a certain price point, escrow may not be viable for profit or selability in a slow market.

Agreed, but I think most of us are answering a question to a forum member that we assume is an honest person.

But yes, a screwing can be a two-way street.
