AMF table
I bought an AMF table 14 years ago. They made a table that appeared to be made to nearly identical specs as a Gold Crown. At the time, I could get a new AMF for the same price as a beat up GC that had been in a pool hall. When I crawled under the table and looked at the undercarriage, it looked just like a GC.
Initially I was pretty disappointed with the table. I don't know how a new Gold Crown plays. But this table's rails were too stiff. The cue ball bounced a bit off the table as it came off the rail. I wanted a table that plays like the ones in pool halls, but what I was learning about playing rail wasn't helping at all. I play almost every day. It took a couple of years, but eventually, the rails softened and improved greatly. Actually, I think it plays just as well as the tables in the local halls. So I am quite pleased now, but it was too much trouble getting here.
I looked at a web site of an AMF dealer. The new table that resembles a GC, looks to be of substantially cheaper construction than my table. I would agree with the other advice that you should check out a Brunswick or Diamond. If price is a concern, with access to the internet, there are much better places to find out about used tables than there were 14 years ago. Most home tables are relatively unused.
Best,
Greg
