Is this an Ebony Titlist?

Seller says it is, but I'm not sure about the veneer colors. Veneers appear to be natural, orange, green, and purple. If it's not a titlist, is it another later Brunswick? Obviously this might change the value, correct? Thanks for feedback all.

Looks like stacked veneers. I don't think it's even a full splice. Do you have a picture of the bottom of the points?

Larry

No

No Larry, it's been sectioned and has a linen wrap on it before the points meet at the bottom. The colors just looked off to me?

The colors are off for a standard titlest, but not all are standard. No way would I pay a titlest price for that cue! JMHO.

The veneers don't look mitered.

The colors are not right for Titlist.

Not sure who made it.....

Nice bright veneers. Very sharp points. Are they even? Might be a nice cue, could be an import.

Seller is cue builder

The seller is the cue builder, so it's not an import. Cue plays well but he's asking a titlist price. He explained that he built it from a one piece titlist house cue. He's a very reputable person. Not sure what to think, but glad my suspicions appear to be right.

I don't know much about titlist but i can see for sure the points are not mitred.
I cropped out a part of the picture and adjusted some lights to show as much as possible, the point is overlapped.

If you look closely at some of the old cues, (Titlists in particular) you will see that the center line of the miters runs off like that. Some times one set of veneers on a cue will meet and run straight up the center, then if you turn it to the next point over they are off center and are longer on one side than the other. You will even see them running straight through one or two veneers and then get off center and in the same set of veneers. It's not unusual to see gaps between the left and right veneers where they are supposed to meet either.

I would like to see a full forearm shot of this cue. I have an idea of what it is, but all I can say from the pictures available is that it does not look like a Brunswick made blank to me.

Not a titlist at all. The green on a titlist is more of an aqua, and the brown veneer is brown, not that red-orange color. From the pictures, the angles don't look right either, as the points look too thin. A full photo would show that better though.

I don't see how that makes sense at all.

I have seen a reputable cue maker sell a cue here that was made from a full splice Taiwan made cue used for a blank. Nobody seemed to notice and he never advertised it as such. Numerous cue builders have used imports for blanks.

Are you saying the cue maker made the splice? If so, then how could you ask if it is a Titlist?

As was said above, many Titlist veneers are off center, they aren't perfect. They were mass produced house cues after all. But I strongly feel this is simply not a Titlist.

You say the seller is a "cue builder". Why not ask him what he made it out of?

dont look rite to me, perhaps the guy who built the cue-got taken for a ride and he dont know it, could happen. if it hits well then thats all that matters IMO unless he wants HUGE $$$ for it.

Here are more pictures as requested. If these are not the shots you are looking for, please let me know what more you would like. Thank you again for your insight-Ryan

For comparison's sake, here is an ebony Titlist. Much, much thicker veneers and the points are much shorter and meet toward the bottom/base of the points. Way different geometry in how the points are cut in between these two cues.

This may simply be the cuemaker's "homage to a Titlist", using somewhat similar veneer colors but with modern day materials.

It would be helpful if you named the maker.

I believe I have this same blank in the shop now: same colors and stacked veneers.
I got mine from Prather.
It is not much like a Titlist except it's full splice.
As dr9ball said above, the colors are distinctive.

No kidding?

No kidding? That would be disappointing. Either this cue-maker/seller has forgotten where he got this from, or he isn't being truthful. Bummer. Cue plays well, but it's been well-used, and he's wanting $850, which is pretty high to me for something that isn't an ebony titlist.

Thank you and thanks to Dr.9ball. Sharp eyes on picking out the veneers!
Thanks for everyone's feedback and PMs. This case appears to be closed-Ryan
