Is this Real? New way to play nine ball?

This video is from Ukraine or Russia, I believe.
Never once do they run out to the nine ball, the always play the combination, carom, or kiss...

I believe it to be a real game situation by their reactions, or it could be just a set up of various shots. What do you think?

In Russian billiards you pocket balls by hitting them off another, so these guys would be trained in this, but logically, this is a different way to play nine ball (as apposed to running out to the nine alone)
 
These guys have seen Pool Hall Junkies one too many times.

I wonder how "Farmer John" lost his shirt.
 
2:08 an 2:14 shots are pretty good though:shrug:

And...I think the fact that in many of the shots the 9 is literally already in the hole, indicates the 'ride the 9' game plan is a poor choice.
 
Around my town, they call those players APA that constantly ride the 9. I call them "victim" and "rack boy."
 
Set up, yet, they did make very nice shots.

Think about how many times when we are playing 9 Ball do we ever get that many great opportunities to combo or carom the 9 Ball.

I don't know about you guys but I don't get many.

Of course, like the Op mentioned, these guys are used to playing Pyramid and that would help 100%.
 
Well I think this answers the question of what's it better to be good at. Shot maker or positional player.
 
I'm confused. What's new about this way of playing 9ball? Also, they couldn't find any better place to put that pool table and/or waterfall? Also, why is that guy not wearing a shirt?

But mostly...I don't see anything different about this way of playing 9ball.
