I want to begin this post by stating that this is NOT a joke or an attempt to be humorous.

As many of you here know from my previous post, Planet 9 Ball in Tampa has been sold after 10 years as a 'serious' poolroom. A room which has supported players, Leagues, tournaments and pool tours. They have hosted the Patriot Cup matches, the Florida Pro Tour, the U.S.Open 9 Ball Wheelchair Championship and many other tournaments.

It is with great sadness that I list their activities for Friday Oct. 12th:
Dwarf 'Cage' Fighting (6 midgets will be in attendance)
Foxy Boxing with two bikini clad female fighters
Midget Marilyn Manson ( a midget dressed & performing as Marilyn Manson)
Special appearance by a midget porn star from the Bunny Ranch Ho House in Nevada, that stars in CATHOUSE on HBO.

This entertainment is brought to you by the new owners and the people responsible for getting rid of the Hip Hop music to deter the low slung baggy pants wearing bad element that had been coming to Planet 9 Ball.

In print so small, that I had to get a youngster with sharp eyesight to read it to me, the flyer for this event says at the very bottom of the Ad, "The outcome of these events may be pre-determined."

Is this what it's come to for the future of the pool in this country ? I will not be attending this event, because all the good up close seating is Sold Out. Apparently, 'midget tossing' is still prohibited. What's up with THAT ?

I can't even envision going out to my favorite poolroom on a Friday night to play or gamble at some one pocket, or meet a friend that has come from out of town to meet and play or even to put in some serious practice time and encountering a huge cage set up on the floor.

To walk in to a bunch of screaming drunken wrestling fans, a midget Marilyn Manson impersonator or a midget porn star, when I'm expecting my usual poolroom, is beyond comprehension. What are they thinking ?

What is the correlation between midgets, wrestling and porn with poolplayers ? What is their target audience/customer ? Can someone (anyone) give me a rational explanation to this promotional ploy ?

Your post is neither funny nor humorous, it's terrifying...

How exactly is that kind of "entertainment" not catering to the bad element? Seems to me that's exactly the kind of $### they would enjoy watching.

I, on the other hand, am almost sick thinking about it. What's with the midget fetish?

Not only is it an issue, but since they're admiting that the outcome is pre-determined.........what the hell is the POINT of the whole thing ? And, what type of idiots are going to come out to watch this fiasco ?

15,000 square feet, 30+ tables (Robertson, Murray, Gabriels, Diamonds, Gold Crowns, Olhausen) 9' and 7' tables, snooker table, two piece house cues, No hand powder to mess up the tables, no wall racks for cues, Diamond style custom lighting above each table. Full bar and restaurant, stage, Big Screen TV and a dozen other TVs spread around the room, a cue repair shop and cue area with billiard products For Sale. It's killing me to see it come to this....

Sounds like this is an issue for the NAAMW. [National Association for the Advancement of Midget Wrestlers]. They could get this straightened out.:eek:

So in an attempt to make the place fun for everyone, regardless of any potential shortcomings, the new owners only saw three outs:

1) Lower the floor just underneath one of the tables;
2) Chop the legs off the table;
3) Weekly Midget Tossing Tournaments

Much to the dismay of those not vertically challenged, the new owners made a decision......

I feel your pain Doug.. nothing worse than a good pool hall gone to waste. Now that I think of it.. this is probably worse than the place closing down. You have to stick a hot poker in your eyes and ears just to play on some decent equipment.

I'd guess they are just trying something crazy to get people to come in. Is there a college in that area? Frat boys loves them some midget tossing! Dumb asses.

Well, hopefully all of the regulars feel the same way you do. Surely they can't have some midget event taking place every night. I would guess that if you all boycotted them for a while, they would realize that they can't keep the place afloat on midget shows alone, and need their pool players back. I bet you all can get it straightened out if you got everyone you know to agree to stay out of there while these idiots are wreaking havoc on what sounds like a top notch pool hall.

We have had two "real" pool rooms close their doors in my area, USA Billiards in Laurel MD and now Bill and Billie's in Arnold MD.

Thank the good Lord, we don't have dwarf-throwing games in my area, but the pool rooms now are more like singles bars with loud music, big-screen TVs, and the pool tables are not frequented by serious-minded players on a regular basis. Gone are the days of a good old neighborhood pool room, a welcoming place with a cast of regulars.

If it were me, Smorgie, I'd be finding another pool room close by. Why on earth would they ban the previous employees? Dwarf throwing is offensive to most, illegal in some jurisdictions, and I would contact the City Council and lodge a complaint.

Forget this place. :mad: What a shame! :(

WTF, did Shorty buy it? Sounds like you need some civil disobdience down there, man. Chain the front doors closed everyday, protest out front (I'm sure there's a group looking for something to protest about) It's better off being closed with the potential of someone else buying it than being allowed to call it's self a pool room with a midget fetish.

I have played at Planet 9 Ball many times. I've even played in some of their tournaments. So has Buddy Hall, Ray Martin, Richie Rich, CM Lee, and many many more pros and shortstops over the years. It was nice poolroom. I liked many of the waitreses dressed in their tight jeans, t-shirts, and cowgirl hats. Most of them played pool too. Very sorry to hear its turned into a circus. Johnnyt
 
i WOULD RATHER GO TO STROKERS IN PALM HARBOR ANYWAY, IMHO . JOSE DEL RIO DOES WAY MORE FOR POOL . HE AND HIS CREW ARE GOOD PEOPLE.

I think it's a travesty as well. I couldn't consider any serious pool there. But it might become a good place to snap off drunk midget wresting fans.

I really enjoyed when you and I played there - the table was tight and tough and the competition was fun.

It's too bad - I hope Kenny made out on the sale though.

Bummer. What are the other rooms in Tampa, any good ones?
