Is this why people start some of these "stupid threads"?

It seems as if there is a small group of people, that always seem to start threads about nothing. When you read them, you say to yourself... "Self, why would anyone ask that question"?

Threads like these......

"Have you ever looked at your cuestick and wanted to marry it"

"Have you ever used a paper sack to carry your cue around"

"Have you ever missed a shot and wondered why"

"How do you chalk your stick"

You know the threads... I think at least 50% of new threads are started by the same 10 people every day.

Could it be this little nugget of info, is why?

Ok, we have the super shots thread going fairly well....and I never got any rep for that mind you (hint hint) hehe!!

Could the underlying factor of why some people start so many threads, is in hopes that people give them rep? This "rep" thing has really facinated me, as it seem to make some people feel validated or feel more important. I think the programmers of Vbulletin implemented this "Virtual Rep" as a experiment, requested by some psychologists that were studying self-worth.

Thoughts?

PS.... no rep, please:D

I let some of the threads get to me the other day and I had someone I respect give me some good advice about living in a glass house,so as aggravating as some are,I will do my best not to throw stones Peteypooldude

Hey Cali, I'm guessing you're not a fan of npr. Talk about how a few people generate the lion's share of threads!

One of the things I learned in 25 years of university teaching is that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Believe in the goodness of man and that the intent behind a question is to clarify some vague thought and you will get much further in life.

Many more times than I can count I have found that helping someone to clarify their question has yielded fruitful discussions. Some people have a difficult time articulating what they are trying to get at and when we pursue their question with a belief in their honest intent we often learn in areas that we had not thought very much about.

Rather than look down their throat try looking in their heart and you may be surprised at what you too will learn.

Well said, Joe. I'd give you a greenie but they said I had to wait. :)

Why did you start this thread? If I was going to guess, I'd say reasons are similar. Boredom, looking to liven up the forum, start a conversation, or complain about something.

The comment about the rep was a joke. If you took it as anything more than that then you have the problem. I think 99.9% of the people around here pretty much understood that.

The rep comment was probably a joke, ok, but tell me; how much rep have you gotten since the comment? LOL. My guess is that you have had at least 5 people rep you since the comment.

I think there may be another reason some of these people start these threads. I kinda suspect that some if not all of these people are lonely shut-ins who really have no life outside of INTERNET forums. It has nothing to do with their intelligence level or their education loneliness effects people from all walks of life.

It is kinda sad, but it is harmless to everyone unlike the thieves who pray upon our forum members, and the Trolls who do nothing except disrupt reasonable conversations between forum members.

Actually only 1. I never expected rep from it. I thought the "hehe" after the comment made it clear that I was kidding. I didn't know that I had to put a footnote on my posts explaining when something is kidding around and when something is serious.

NOTE: Just in case it's not clear enough, I covered the names and comments from the other people. It's no one's business who is giving rep and what they are saying.

When you're taking a dump, then when going to wipe, ever have that one finger that pokes through? If so, should we start a poll about it?
