Is the owner of your Pool Room into harvesting good Pool Players? Or is the establishment into training drunks?

Does your pool Room have a weekly "Beginner to Intermediate" (3-6) Pool Tournament?

Does your Pool Room have a good instructor?

Does your Pool Room have a book and/or video Library?

If not, Why Not ??

Reading a book or watching a video can teach you something in 10 minutes, that you can learn to apply in 30 minutes, instead of the usual 60 days of interrupted trial & error.

Good Luck to all...

good post, i'd love to see a room that has video collection of training or even old matches that you can really learn from, For me i mostly learn like 70% of my playing watching these solid matches.

thanks for the post

For the first time in a long time:

Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.

I think everyone already knows where I play.......Grady's, baby!!

Blackbird Billiards in Kalamazoo

Yes...
Yes...
Yes...
No...

Definitely a player's room. If you're nearby, Blackbird is having a mini DCC, the Kalamazoo Classic...banks, one pocket, and 9 ball...three weeks in a row...10/13-14; 10/20-21; and 10/27-28...added money in all three events.
You can play in one, or all three! Step on up! :D

I'll be there Scott. (Even though it's my wifes' birthday) Will you?

I'll just be back from my trip to California a couple of days before, but I'll be in town for the bank tourney, and am playing...but not likely for the other two weeks! :( See ya there! :D If you're playing and you haven't got your entry in, you'd better do it quick. Tim told me last week that the banks was almost full.

there is no player's room in quebec area. Its mostly loud music and drunk people...at least skratch billiards change table cloth once a year and holds important tournaments.

Wow, I did know that you played in my pool room:confused: Seriously, I have been doing all these this and more in my Pool since I opened. I totally agree with your post and your thread.

Here is a link to my room-http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=48461

The place I play at is a training ground for drunks and a breeding ground for illegitimate children:D:D

Ha ha ha ha ha lol lol whew! That's a good one!

Drunks, No, No, No, No interest.

Here it is simple. Like it or leave.

You can spout out great ideas and they are met with optimism and forgotten before you are out of sight.

At least this survey is relevant and original!

My pool room:
Good players account for a very small % of our income. History has shown in my room that the better you play, the less you spend/per hour at a pool room. We culitivate bangers. This helps the bottom line.
We dont have alcohol..so minimal drunks. Just the guys that are serious alcoholics that keep running out to the car to sip some warm beer.
Do not have 3-6 tournaments.
No instructor on staff. We are lucky to have Mark Wilson as a good friend of ours and lives very close. We always send as many customers as we can to Mark.
No video library. We had one for years. Approximately 40% of our library got stolen. Police do not want to persue anyone that steals a $20 video. Approximately 90% kept out videos past the due date and would cuss you or stop coming into your room if you tried to charge the $3 late fee. Some people would have videos for MONTHS. " Kick them out" you are thinking? Should I kick out 90% of my regulars? Not very good for business. When the price of DVDs went up double over videotapes, everyone scoffed at us raising our rates. Everyone just wanted to buy one...burn a copy on their computer..then return it to us saying it was defective. So we rarely sell them anymore. We sell books. But most people are buying them off Amazon used now. I cannot compete when a book costs me $15 plus shipping, retails for $19.95 and Amazon sells it for $6.75 with free shipping for used.

Where I shoot, good players shoot before 8pm, appears to me it is not worth the hassle of the younger crowd and thier lack of etiquette, that drives the regulars away. but then again the younger crowd packs the place and the owner makes money off of them after 8.

Does your pool Room have a weekly "Beginner to Intermediate" (3-6) Pool Tournament? No, There I am disapointed

Does your Pool Room have a good instructor? Yes and no, There is a guy who helps the beginner and intermediate players. I know he helped me with my stroke. but he is not on the halls payroll.

Does your Pool Room have a book and/or video Library?
No, probably like the previous poster said, lost copies late returns and the loss of business when you charge late fees.
If not, Why Not ??

Seems to me the pool hall I frequent in a way is like a pair of old shoes, I feel comfortable and welcomed there. And the old charactors there have almost accepted me as a regular. It is clean tables in good shape.

Now the criticism, no tourniments, no leagues, nothing to promote the game of pool, Besides the table time.
I am talking about the Electric stick in Westland Mi. I shoot at the Sharks club in canton MI, 8 ball league and a 1 pocket league at the Ivory room in Garden city Mi,.( where by the way I shoot ,I think they calll me easy money Charlie) I have started to think is feeling comfortable in a room, more important than frequenting the rooms i shoot at in leagues, cause honestly I find my self going to other halls more often. Just because of the leagues. Now my blessings, in a radius of 10 miles there is least 7 pool halls, and within 20 there has to be 12 rooms.........Charlie D jmho

Buzzys---allentown Pa..very Knowledgable Staff...lessons And Tournaments Available..very Friendly

My local poolroom has produced some of the finest drunkards in the Southeast (including myself at times). Oh yeah...there are a few good pool players there also.
