ISO Old Fashioned Pool Rooms In Florida

So the wife wants to move to Florida for at least part of the year. Her only requirement is to be near the Gulf because she loves to swim in the Gulf's warm water. My requirement is that there be a nice old-fashioned pool hall not too far driving distance (say 40 miles or less) from the Gulf.

By old-fashioned pool hall, I mean one that is not primarily a bar. I have no interest in playing on bar tables or being in a bar league. For me the ideal room would have good players and well-maintained 9 foot equipment. For those familiar with it, my ideal room is Red Shoes in the Chicago area.

Three cushion tables would be an extra plus.

Any suggestions?

Tampa and Baker's I think would fit your needs. As well you have Stroker's in Palm Harbor, and Capone's somewhere around there, Spring Hill I think?

Family Billiards on Rogers Street in Clearwater is probably what you're looking for.......

Palm harbor is where strokers is and hammerhead is only a few miles down the road they have all diamonds and crooked cue isn't far they also have diamonds family billiards is a shit hole.

I was just at strokers and would not consider it an olde tyme room at all.
Loud and as much tgi fridays as pool room.

Who knows the place in melbourne?
That joint is old school

I would think Family Billiards in Clearwater is what you are looking for, the owner plays one pocket pretty sporty. Good luck, Tom

Family Billiards in Clearwater have GC I's and II's, all recently recovered and supposed 4 1/2" pockets. They do not have any billiard tables. They open at 11AM.

CM's in Seminole (St Pete) has two older model diamonds with 1-hole players, the rest are I believe Gandy Big G's in pretty good shape. They have two billiard tables and a snooker table, IIRC. They have a bar, but this is pretty much a pool hall only. With that in mind, they're destined to shut down. They open at 4PM.

Cape Coral

Diamond's in Cape Coral is fantastic. 9 foot and 7 foot Diamond tables. Full bar, but lots of action. Bigggame is one of the owners and posts here sometimes. 9 footers on one side, 7 footers on the other. Raised bar area for swettors. New room of the year in Billiards Digest in 2008, if I remember correctly.

Starcade Billiards in Ft. Walton Beach is right on the gulf. It has a bangers bar table section, and a completely separate room full of Gold Crowns. Weekly tournaments and a great selection of cues. Great people and a great room.

Rich...Here's another vote for the Tampa Bay area. I've spent the month of April in that area, on the beach, for the past 5 years...and am heading down there again next week. Crooked Cue is less than 10 miles from the beach. Donny Mills plays out that room. The owner (Buddy) is a bit of a player, and keeps the tables in pretty good shape. I concur with the descriptions some have made about the other room in Clearwater(Family Billiards). When I've been in there it was dark, and the tables played really slow. CM's room also has very slow cloth...but it's closest to the beach...only about 5 minutes. Strokers is pretty good, but probably almost an hour from the beaches. There are others, but everybody has a liquor license, so you'll have to experience them, and make your pick(s).

Starcade is a great spot. I was treated great the week I spent in Ft. Walton. I got stiffed by a local club owner out of $1800 after I beat his guy all night and into the morning keeping score on the wire. But in Starcade it was all perfect all the time. Nice white beaches, great spot but maybe a little too far north to stay warm all the time.
