It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

If it's not a Showman or a Tasc, I would have went with Scruggs, too.

I don't know of anyone else that could do a replica as clean as him.

I would have thought the same thing, DC! It's the cleanest tribute cue I've ever seen right down to the measurements on the rings (exactly as wide as the originals)... Plays pretty sporty, too!

LOL!!! I was thinking Richard Helmstetter, Mike Johnson, and Dan Janes, since almost every other usual suspects have been mentioned. The old shaft, the old bumper, and the green veneers made me think of Helmstetter pre-Adam.

Fred,

That's the beauty of this little quiz... this cue wasn't made by the "usual suspects"!

Ladies and gentlemen, we have the right suspect! John Showman and Matt24 have both figured it out for us. Steve Klein in VA made this cue. It is absolutely gorgeous and plays every bit as good as it looks (hits a ton, Jimbo!). The detail in this cue is phenomenal! The ebony is jet black and the maple forearm doesn't have a birdseye to be found. The ringwork really sets the cue off and isn't found in a lot of the usual tribute cues that I see on the market. We usually only see Steve's sneaky petes, so I just wanted to share some of the work he's really capable of... Thanks for playing! Rep points to anyone I can give them to (sorry ScottR, they say I have to spread them around a little first).

I was going to guess Bryan Mordt.

About three years ago I see a cue on e-bay, a brand new 4 pointer with veneers for $350 buy it now or something like that made by Steve Klein. I put it up on one of the boards and said, wow look at this deal. The cue looked terrific.

I couldn't believe he could make such a nice cue for the money.

How did you meet him? Wasn't he in Arizona for awhile?

Chris

Hi Chris,

I actually bought the cue off the secondary market. I "met" Steve through a question or two I had when I was deciding whether to buy the cue. He's a great guy! He was very quick to answer his emails and couldn't have been more helpful. I can't find a single flaw on the cue and the attention to detail is amazing. The hit fits my playing style nicely. Both shafts are 13+mm and hits stiffly with a sound that reminds me of the ping we used to have with the Model M that you and I owned. While it is a long way from the $350 cues, it is still a real value when compared to a lot of other Bushka style cues on the market. I plan on having another Klein or two in my case!

Great Paradise in your thread! You've come a LONG way from the one I traded you, Chris!

Regards,

Steve

Steve

Give me the Barry NOW.

....and check out our Meucci thread. I got the 97-30 pal. Send me your address!!

Si,

I'd send you the Barry, but when would you ever get the chance to use it between all your Searings ;) !

Congrats on the 97-30!!! I would imagine you had some real work to do to add it to your collection after you contacted the owner, too. I'll PM you my address, but no thanks are necessary. Please send me yours as well, just so I can have it in my Rolodex, in case something else comes along. It's an awesome Meucci! Great provenance, as well... A true one of a kind! The timing was really unbelievable. I had just told a friend of mine that collects Meuccis about it and he informed me that there was "no such thing", just an urban myth. I had just got off the phone with him when I saw your post. He'll die when I show him the pictures you posted!

Take care, pal, and good show!

Steve
