It's official Strickland Vs SVB Bar Box 8,9 & 10-Ball

"I am about the biggest idiot in the world with this stuff. I have seriously NO clue at all and furthermore the thought of it makes my teeth itch. :)"

Sorry to cause you all the confusion earlier!

Earl respect Shane because Shane does not talk much, does not complain, breaks hard, and can't hear Earl complaining to talk back to him LOL

So JAM, how much "seasoning" is enough? 5 years of everyday play vs top players in every country? 10? 20 years of hustling and gambling vs 10 years of tournaments? What do you come up with in a match that 15 years of practice and matches won't give you that 25 will? I think it's more of the style of play that matters, a guy that plays for 10 years that likes to take chances will not do as well in the long run as someone with the same play time that is more careful with his percentage shots.

I normally do not watch anything on the bar tables, but if time allows I will be ordering this match.

Just wanted to point out that Earl won his first pro tournament by beating the Miz on TV with a full-cue jump shot in 1983........

The year that SVB was born.

Earl definitely has a few moves Shane doesn't know yet, because Shane has not been alive long enough to learn as much as Earl knows.

I think this match needs to be alternate break if we want to see a match. Winner breaks will provide a rack running exhibition. I'll watch either way.

can there be a poll to see what size table they should play on? just to get a general idea of what most on here are interested in seeing. That could be a good representation of what the country would like to see.

I've watched A LOT of youtube videos of matches played on 7ft tables. Not even close the excitement of 8-9ft tables.

Went and shoot some pool today and it was packed. Had a waiting list and finally a table was available and it was a bar box table. They have 2 7ft, 10 8ft, and 2 9ft. Played 4-5 games before we were able to move onto an 8ft table and I have to say, it was very boring.

Just a thought...

GXman, Well so far I have not heard very much negative about the table size. In fact it has been pretty positive. The table size is also really a part of the whole event "The Decider" since they have played challenges on the other size of table. And one last thing, I am happy that there has not been a push or alot od negativity regarding the bar table because it's gonna be tough to get a 9ft table to the venue. Just a little insight as to where I am on the table size. Thank you for your interest and hope that you will still watch ans support the event.

I like these 2 facing off for sure... however I would be more apt to purchase this, take the time off of work to watch the match if it was slightly different format.

Barbox 8 Ball
Race to 100
make it take it after break
ball in hand "in the kitchen" when scratch on the break

You will see more creativity and shot making alone with this format... and definitely worth the price

just my 2 cents

Mark,

I'm of the opinion that VOD software will be cheap sooner than later and with the cloud giving unlimited bandwidth for very little money, it will be very cost effective to take all the matches and create a VOD site and sell the views for very little $$, there is a million ways to monazite the content, we can talk about that together. Make sure you get the content now, because later you will be glad you did, VOD video on demand is the next thing for pool online. and content has to be created. When i'm back from Europe i'm glad to help if u like.

YouTube is working on getting paid channels in place where uploaders can charge a fee for access to their channel. Would be a pretty fast way of getting access to a paid subscription site.

WOW, just had a great conversation and hope that it works out but it looks real positive. People buying the 3 day PPV may be getting an additional gift that will be worth the price of PPV alone. Hope to have more info soon.

VOD can transform pro pool. First, everyone has to agree that FREE pool is bad for the pros. Some content on youtube to wet the whistle is helpful. But VOD can only work if you can't watch the same player everywhere for free. Pool just has too many nits everyone wants something for nothing. VOD can generate decent $ to support paying the top players. I still don't believe anyone is going to get rich playing pool or promoting it. The player's cost of doing business-- travel, # of hrs practicing, inconsistent paydays, healthcare, retirement, family, etc-- is just too high.

I'm looking forward to this matchup. Earl can out-shoot SVB all day (meaning dealing with difficultto layouts, safety play- technical stuff). But he can't fade SVB's break (his ability to generate easy layouts from the break is staggering). The alternating breaks will help Earl tremendously. But, SVB is becoming a much better tactician. This matchup is a good test for him to grow. Can't wait.

Altho Chuck Norris thumb wrestles Silverback Gorrillas for breakfast, Earl can detect a 1.314% rise in humidity as it affects a .7% density softspot on the rail 2.3inches from the lower left corner pocket. That batcrazy SOB is genius at figuring sh1t out and adapting.

Just a couple of other examples of that type of 'feel'.

John Havlechek warming up pre-game tells the man responsible for the goal that the rim is 1/2 inch too low. The guy says yeah right. John says no really can you measure it. The man measures it & the rim is a 1/2 inch too low.

Raymond Floyd give his driver to the man in the equipment trailer to regrip the club & tells the man that he wants two layers of tape not just one. The man says let's see if he can really tell the difference & only puts one layer of tape under the grip. Floyd comes back & the man gives him the club & Floyd immediately is upset & tells the man, I told you I wanted two layers of tape not just one. I was told this in person right after it happened by the man in the equipment trailer.

People at the top got there for reasons that the rest of us can barely comprehend.

Earl may be getting a bit old but he's not dead.

Alternate breaks. Like Hopkins says, no other game has the one that scores keeps the ball.

In a match against Earl, SVB's mental game is a better advantage than his break, IMO.

bar box equipment is not created equal.......there are pumkin balls, heavy cue balls....etc related to bar box equipment . It would be interesting to see top pros play with the equipment found in most bars vs the shiny new stuff.

No idea... these guys are both known as amazing shotmakers, and they're playing on equipment
where that's less important. I think on the barbox it comes down to who has smarter & safer patterns,
and better cue ball control in congestion. So which of these players plays pinpoint shape better?
Which one plays smarter? Who lays down the most lockup safeties?

If earl wins on the big 10 footer, does that mean his only possible edge on shane is the ability to
make long tough shots, and now he's giving that away?

Is the barbox break different, meaning shane's breaking edge might be removed?

Shane theoretically has the mental edge as he's less likely to go into give-up mode.
Earl's antics on the other hand can wreck the other guy's mental game.

I don't know that I wanna make a bet here, so much of it depends on Earl's mood.
It's funny how the intangibles can matter so much. Confident Earl is four balls better
than Sulky Earl, or Give-up Earl, or Pissy Earl.

Not sure about the overall rack count.

In your example, in the third set, Shane can't get past 20 games. If he does, do they continue to play? I doubt Earl would keep playing when he knows there's no chance of winning in that example.

The only way I can see this format would work in the long run would be for there to be prize money for each of the three rounds and a over all winner. So on day three the overall winner may be decided a few racks before the event is over, but they would still want to play it out for the cash that is still on the table for that round. That is how bull riding pays out. Three day events with three daily round winners and an over all winner. That keeps em trying their hardest all the way to the end.
