Send Keith! I bet he could still win some matches.

Holy smoke, you're right. Check out the prices for business class from DC to Sarajevo with only 1 stop.
Economy class with only one stop is about half the cost of business class.
I found economy flights from sfo with one stop for about $780 before checked luggage, so figure about $1000. Good hotels look to be around $70/night. Turkish Airlines was about $750 with checked luggage but the return flight was 23 hours.

mostly muslims there. and americans are not looked upon well in the present. and its been only about 20 years since the srebrenica slaughter.

this assessment doesn't ring true with my experience with bosnians. for example the ramadan fasting month is usually observed by bosnians in that they're not drinking as much beer and liquor those weeks.. quite a different interpretation than other muslims. and they usually like americans, and other nations that were on their side during the conflict.

yes but not a good time now at present. too many fanatics around right now on edge.
the govt. has it as a level two threat for travelers.
she isnt going anyway.

I was looking at the "host hotel" that WNT listed on their invitation for hotel rates.

I also foujnd an eocnomy rate for about $700, but a gentleman earlier on this thread who has experience in aviation said the economy class sucks going over there, that business class is the way to go.

Yeah well, if you are always flying business, it's hard to move down the aisle towards the cattle department. If you have a few grand extra to invest, no problem. Personally I have always flown economy and admitted the quality has gone down and the seat gaps getting smaller (being 6'6") but it is compensated in the price of the flight.

In my experience wherever you travel, the pool community people help each other out. Especially if you have any doubts about the safety of the destination, don't hesitate to reach some local players. They will always tell you if your fears are justified. Most of the times lack of knowledge turns into fear without any other justification than the lack of knowledge itself. I haven't been to Sarajevo myself but never heard any stories of lack of safety from the people travelling there. Europe in general is very safe. I have once been in Tirana, Albania and heard stories of kidnappings and such but Tirana and the people were extremely friendly even though most of them very poor according to Finnish standards.

... business class is the way to go.
If it's worth two to four thousand to you to be slightly more comfortable for ten hours, then that's the ticket. I'm properly sized for airline seats and I'll sleep for most of the flight. The last time I flew to London for the Mosconi Cup, I had a whole row to myself in cattle class so I could lie down. 😴👍✈️

You should be flattered by the invitation but there are limits to the saying "fortune favors the brave." You wouldn't be my pick to win the title.
Limits indeed! One of the guys that quote is attributed died a few hours after saying it.

I shared the invitation to add some levity to our discussion forum. Of course, I am not going to compete in the WNT event, much less fly to Sarajevo. I did, though, share some thoughts about how expensive it is to fly around the world as a "regular" WNT pro player. Quite expensive, in my opinion, of course, to do this on a regular basis.

WNT sent out invitiations to all WNTTV-dot-com subscribers. Did you receive one? :)

Hey! Could i check with those who received the email - what is the entry fee for the tournament? I'm considering whether it is worth to sign up for WNT TV just to play in the tournament. Many thanks!

The entry fee is $250. You are required to stay at the host hotel, which I think is about $130/night. Unless you live in B-H, you will have to travel. For most people, the entry fee is more or less irrelevant compared to the other expenses.

Exactly. The entry fee for Predator Las Vegas Open is somewhere around $300 but that’s nothing compared to the cost of staying in Rio for a week or even more if you want to sweat the other events as well.

Yes, I did. Still considering it. ;)
Since I wasn't doing much that week, I've decided to enter. For the record, the following are my expenses so far:

$768 -- flight, brief stops in Istanbul each way, two checked bags 50 pounds each, seats selection included
$575 -- hotel -- venue/required hotel for five nights -- gotta extend stay if I get into the knock-out
$123 -- parking at SFO
$250 -- entry fee
-------------------
$1716 total except for local travel in Sarajevo and meals

I just couldn't let Barry Hearn be the oldest player entered.

Every shot you take. every move you make, every game you play, we'll be watching you.

This is exciting. Now I have something to look forward to. What a great experience!
