Ivory-like material

:scratchhead:Hey, I'm looking to have a cue made, i want a joint that hits like ivory, but I don't really want an ivory joint. What material is closest in hit and look to ivory??? :sorry:

You can do no better than Elforyn. Some of it looks much closer to ivory than other...just have your maker select a nice section.

Elforyn is a great substitute for ivory imo. Some has more grain than others, it has a good feel in a joint or ferrule.

There are several Ivory substitutes that look pretty close to Ivory, but none of them hit like Ivory that I have found.

MaseCraft (sp) has some nice material but it wouldn't be well suited for a joint. I have a very pretty butt sleeve on a Meucci with that or something very similar. I believe that if you
accidentally hit it the wrong way, it might crack or shatter. It can be used for other things, just not a joint.

as good if not better

i have found elk to play as good if not better than ivory. not only the hit, but 2 other reasons are i believe elk will not crack as easy and it is less expensive. BUT as with most things you have to give something to get something and elk is not pure white as is ivory.

Elk fight and tangle horns worse than the impact on an Elk ferrule could ever be.

Alaskan moose antler, if cut from the base is very uniform white and much more durable than ivory, while feeling pretty much the same.
