A local cue repair guy showed me his method of making a 5 /16 -14 match up to a pechauer joint.
I haven’t tried doing one myself, but the two he did for me (mezz with 5/16) work great, and still work fine on standard 5/16 shafts.
He took a drill bit that was slightly larger than the measurement from the bottom of the threads and drilled the first part of the 5/16 threaded insert “smooth”.
The inner details of the insert are the same as pechauer’s design then.
That allows a Pechauer butt to accept a (altered) 5/16 shaft....
Apparently, this is a fairly common practice in the cue repair circles.
