Japanese pool player Naoyuki Oi gives the most bizarre post-match interview ever

He's a character all right! But very likable. We could use a few more like him in Pool, who aren't afraid to express themselves.

I didn't find it humorous. I felt embarrassed for Japanese people when I watched it personally.

I agree.
Someone should interpret for this guy or else he should not give an interview, especially if the answers are not in-line with the questions.
The way he moved his head reminded me of the way Earl acts. Check it out if you don't believe me.

It's okay to be animated, but those answers were totally non-sequitur, and his acting skills were unnecessary.

Pool purists have an odd point of view about pool. Maybe that's why it's dying a slow and ugly death. We need more players like Naoyuki Oi to put a little color and personality in the sport. Nobody wants to watch tournament soldiers playing mum pool with no personality executing shots like robots. Nobody is going to pay to see that.

100 % correct

You are totally right, this guy is great. I would bet that when he plays, he packs the
stands. Who do you think would draw a bigger crowd, Keith or Crane. PLEASE. And
i'm sure all these people that don't like him didn't like Fats either who got more people
involved in the game than every one else combined. As great as they were, like Fats
said Mosconi and Crane couldn't draw a crowd if they set them self's on fire in the
middle of Main Street.

Great minds think alike! :)

Keith, Ronnie and Louie were never the tournament favorites but they always drew the biggest crowds, ALWAYS! All three were flamboyant, talkative, daring and funny. Alex is probably the closest we have to either of them now and he doesn't have close to their charisma.

The guy made the game of pool seem more like a joke to me. I agree charisma in the players is needed, but you know svb isn't mcready. That's just a fact. T woods is one of the biggest draws in sports and it is or was 100% about playing good, not antics or charisma. Although as I mentioned I don't think a good personality or charisma can ever hurt. I just felt if I was Japanese I'd be putting my hand over my face in shame if I saw this.

, first off his play put him in position to be interviewed , they actualy love pool in Japan and he's probably now on his way to rock star status , it's also being shared on FB and YouTube so it's going viral also as we speak
There are plenty of golfers who didn't win much but fans love then because thier entertaining

Your first two half sentences are off topic.

What you bring up next is interesting... essentially what you're saying is act like an idiot, but hey if it goes viral you're doing great. Yes this is all great info for our kids. Show your ass in that bikini and make a sex tape and "go viral". Why has something gone viral is my first question. If the answer is "because he made a total fool of himself" or something like that, well, he "went viral" right? So it must be good! It's ALL about going viral.

Hey, as long as you go viral who cares what you do or how much of an idiot you look like. What a manta.

Nobody drew crowds like tiger. It supposedly wasn't even close. I personally don't think he's very "entertaining", he was just good. I just think your theory breaks down at that. This is all I'm saying... playing super good is essentially enough to get fans crazy about watching.

Here's what one of the many -- and I mean many -- fourth estate pundits are writing about Naoyuki Oi today: Naoyuki Oi may be heading home from the World Pool Masters, but he's left us with some great memories.

This tournament was live via Sky Sports, and Naoyuki Oi's interview has gone viral around the world. Read more here --> HERE

Oh really

.. playing super good is essentially enough to get fans crazy about watching.

Well, there are a ton of super players in every tournament and they can't draw enough
fans to fill a telephone booth let alone the bleachers.

Naoyuki has always had a big personality, great entertainment in interviews and a strong player at the table.

If you had to put personality on a scale Chang is at one extreme end of the scale, Naokuki is at the complete opposite.

Correct here as well. The biggest draw in Pool the last 10-20 years has been Efren, who is very shy, but brilliant on the table. The second biggest draw has been Earl for very different reasons. He's a train wreck waiting to happen.

Plenty of room in the giant empty arena of Pro Pool for almost anyone. This interview was funny.

I got this on my Twitter feed from a non pool playing Chicago journalist...

Say what you want, but this is the most attention a broad audience has paid to pool in a decade (or more).

It's true pool doesn't have a large fan base. I remember when Mika was unstoppable for a good couple years though. I remember even players were lining the stands watching his matches. If you've got the fan base, playing great is enough. Efren is the other example. But yeah it's true we need that base and I suppose a guy like this can help with that.
