Jax Tournament- Sleeping With A Goddess

While I didn't perform very well at the tournament, I have to say the trip was an unbelievable success. I got a chance to sleep with John Schmidt's gorgeous girl friend, Rachel and took it. Sorry John!:o John is my buddy but his girl is Da Bomb. :D The weekend was a blast and Rachel was great company. John was kind of a stick in the mud, hanging around and everything. He even demanded that Rachel sleep in the bed next to mine with him. Some guys are just so demanding. John and Rachel chauffered me around town and I played host for the weekend and as always, they were good company.

One young whippersnapper asked for some $20 races to 3 nine ball after seeing me play poorly and I gave him three sets worth. He was done after that although the score was very close. Those 8 foot tables are toy tables and like Jim mentioned, they weren't in top shape.

I also asked around for some one pocket action and no one bellied up. I even asked Shane if he wanted to play some one pocket. He smiled and said no and I think he said something about he wanted to practice nine ball. I didn't think to ask Orcullo or Sambajon. What a dummy! I know I could have gotten some cheap lessons from them. :)

I purchased one of those machined aluminmum racks and got Archer, Hohmann, Orcullo and Williams to autograph the rack. There was a snafu whereby I received Sam Diepp's (sp?) specially autographed rack by accident and she forced me to make a trade.:D

I ran into one old "road hog" that I hadn't seen in 30 years. He won the Senior's tournament (a race to 4) on 8 foot tables and it was good to see him as I remembered him to be a good guy morethan a quarter of a century ago. He didn't want to play any one pocket and didn't offer to gamble at nine ball either and since I liked him, I didn't push the issue. He seemed to have put a colorful past behind him and was in good health and good spirits. I wouldn't have changed anything for him that weekend but did ask him to ask around if there was any one pocket action to be had to no avail.

The young whippersnapper tried to bait and switch me with Josh Lewis who is a very good player and I passed, looking for something a little longer in the tooth or maybe just easier. :)

The other highlight of the tournament was hanging out with Stan Shuffett and Landon Shuffett.

Stan is a GREAT GUY to hand out with and he knows me so we went over to QBalls Billiard and had a fantastic pool lesson there. I have plenty to work on for the next several months and know I will be improving. Maybe next year I can beat an octogenarium.

The pool lessons with Stan were an ongoing thing and his insight into the way professionals think and the patterns that they run was impressive. Besides that, I found out from personal experience that Stan is one FANTASTIC FATHER. I sure hope Landon realizes how lucky he is. Stan is just as impressive as a father as he is a pool instructor and that's saying something.

I continue to learn from Stan and am adopting his winning Pro One aiming System but it's his whole package that makes him a must see again instructor.

Landon is a great kid. Can you imagine a young man like that, not allowing me to pay for a meal and him taking money out of his own pocket to pay and wouldn't have it allow anything different to take place no matter how hard I protested? :yeah:  He too wowed me, not just with his pool playing but with his friendly and sociable demeanor.

I went to this tournament primarily to get another lesson from Stan and Landon but enjoyed the many other aspects of the tournament. I met
AV84Fun and his wife and they were very nice as well as Neil Fuijera (sp?) who plays REALLY WELL. Randy9ball also introduced himself along with some other AZBers who I can't remember just now but it was nice fun but wished I had played a little better. Next time.

Oh yeah, I spotted Collection Guru and wasn't sure it was him so I asked and sure enough it was the man himself.

Sounds like you had a great time! Glad to see it was fun AND productive...along with some bragging rights, lol.

It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Why do I keep thinking that Joy Boy is an Eastern version of me? Except I'm a reformed hustler and he isn't! YET!!! :D

It was great meeting you Joey, I know we didn't have much time to talk but I really appreciate you making the effort to introduce yourself this weekend. You are very respectful of people's time and space which I think is great and underly appreciated overall, it was a pleasure meeting you and I had hoped to chat with you more.

Joey,

It was a pleasure to meet you as well! Just wish I would have done better in the tournament too LOL. I got the same impression about the Shuffets just by observing them. Didn't get to meet either one but I'm planning on getting some lessons from Stan over a weekend sometime when I can work it out.

Regards,

Randy

The Shuffetts are a class act and worth every penny in my opinion. I've taken lots of pool lessons in my life and won't hesitate to take more from Stan. Stan is the man! :D

Thanks for the kind words Neil. Maybe we can chat next time.

Amateur events...

Glad to see you had a great time down there Joey. You planning on making the drive, (or flight), up to ATL for any of those Viking events Mike Janis is putting on? If you do happen to go to any of the ones at Q's, I'll be there most likely.

I guess that's supposed to be John Schmidt? If so, she is a knock out.
