Do you see them there? Or is it primarily 9 footers? and if the latter-why do you think that is the case?

Thanks

I've only seen 1(Barbox) in a church in a very remote town. I've heard some pubs/private clubs/privately owned tables have them Barboxes, but they are very few. Don't know the reasoning why, but pinoys like playing on 9footers. But if you ask them to play Barbox, they will play some too. :)

I've played with kids on these little skiddle puck type tables. They kicked my ass. :)
Never have seen a barbox anywhere in the PI. Even in the bars and hotels it's all nine footers.

How similar to pool in the states in the late 50's early 60's, only saw 9' tables and maybe an occasional snooker/3 cushion, never saw a bar box in a pool room, wasn't old enough at the time to enter a bar.

Still no 'why'. OK. Just 'is' works.

Thanks again

maybe cuz barboxes are an american thing? I don't think they're as popular anywhere else (not really sure). We got barboxes in Toronto too but it's not like we got entire poolhalls of them.

They have small tables in the pubs in Great Britain, with very tight little pockets and they play English Eight Ball with snooker size balls. A lot different than the American version.

My bet? Low overhead. You see smaller and smaller tables in America because owners want to cram more tables in. Just try to find a place with a full size snooker table (aside from Fatboy's:D)

Perhaps someone could expound on the history the barbox in the U.S.A.?

That's a good question, I know in the bars they were every where in the south in the sixties. Most bars didn't have the room for 9'ers I'm sure, but the Big Cue ball had its heyday. I also remember the bar table rooms they had in Fat City outside of New Orleans, and the 4x8 Gold Crowns in New Orleans also.
The Irving K, which is the Diamond/predecessor/tight bar box that seemed prevelant in Nebraska was a great non slop bar box that had Lions heads sticking out of the corner pocket irons. You had to stand up/step back from the table to walk around it so as to not tear into your thigh muscle, but they played real good.
