Jayson Shaw First Contracted Pro on WNT

You may want to revisit the prize pool for Chinese 8ball. The world championship had a 1st place of ~$700k usd. Thats more than most pool pros will earn in their lifetime in the USA.
I may be remembering wrong, I believe it was 700k for first, but then second and the rest were under 100k. Something like that.

It did drop significantly but still had a 1st prize x10 larger than anything we've seen pool in nearly all of history.

The trick with Chinese 8b is being allowed to play. My understanding is that play is regulated by the government. ...so just because you'd like to play. Doesn't mean it's going to happen

I honestly don't know why anyone thinks snooker style pockets (with the rounds) are any good. They take away half the shots. Pool is so much more exciting simply due to that. It fosters aggressiveness.
It's a game of moves and strategy. Think 8b blended with 1pkt.
If MR keeps on their path, I think 9 Ball Pool will trump Snooker, Chinese 8 ball, and any other billiards discipline in every measure. It might take 10 years, but it can happen. Filler may reach Ronnie money and celebrity status. He has the skill, the emotion, and the family angle. I think MR is looking at this. They are looking at their Snooker product, which is a niche in worldwide Billiards sports, and then looking at American style pool. They know Pool is a better game, and they can grow it to surpass Snooker.
Chinese 8b has a massive following. Strictly going by viewership numbers. Surpassing it will be a feat in of itself

Maybe. The thing with Chinese culture, though, is nothing leaves their home country. Even if all of China played it professionally, it would not leave their border. That still makes it super lucrative for promoters, I just don't see it expanding beyond.

IMO :)

I don't have anything substantive, just things I've seen and read on social media. Hopefully, there's nothing to it.
IMO, if Predator teamed up with MR, and switched to 9 ball with normal races, they would instantly triple their entrants. Without changing any other single thing.

The Predator team seems pretty smart. I bet they could enter say -- a 10 year partnership with Matchroom to continue their tour in the US. They could just about own the US tour and I bet MR would let them do it. At least for a while ;)

I just emailed both CSI and Predator, basically asking them to partner with MR and change to 9 ball, in a nice way:) Maybe we can all do that...

Funny thing is. To be a MR affiliate. All you need to do is not enforce WPA bs.

Predator can keep doing their own thing

Why in the world do we want more 9 ball? It is the least fun game to watch to me. I would much rather watch a 10 ball or 8 ball match...
You're probably in the 1% minority. 8 ball is the most boring game, even worse than one pocket. Call shot 10 ball is pretty bad too, it takes away all the luck. If they did 10 ball by 9 ball rules, that's good.

Respectfully, and IMO:)

Big event but they still don't have the financial firepower of Matchroom. In the long-haul the other org's can't fade MR's bankroll. Ch8b will never be a popular game with regular public other than in China.

The situation reads like a commercial.

Which events are for the pros to place like majors?

MR is the place for pros with backers that can endure the contract.

WPA is better for unaffiliated players or players that want a taste of a pro pool player before contract.

Its a huge marketing theater, choose sides wisely. Usually one mathematical reason is sufficient, more than one can qualify for benefits.

Although I'm not as confident on who has the bigger firepower. I do agree ch8b won't see much traction outside of its native land.

As long as they're putting up $$$$, im a fan - even if i never watch a single game

Huh?? WPA has no money itself. JOY tables puts up the $$ for that Heyball. They don't have as much $$ as MR and their partners.
