Jeanette Lee commercial

saw it too

ESPN was trying to groom her as a spokesperson but that seemed like it died when she put her loyalty to Gene Nagy ahead of going the extra mile for ESPN. I don't know if this is connected to that or not since I think I saw the commercial on an ESPN channel.

Hopefully the advertising and the spokesperson things will take off. She seems to put more work into promoting herself and pool than anyone else in US pool.

Well, I would have to say there are few better to put on TV than her as the face of pool to the masses outside of the community players. Lets face it there aren't too many pro's to begin with compared to other sports and not nearly as many good looking... Of course that's the shallow aspect but hey it's a shallow society. Victoria Secrets don't use ugly models for a reason...

I saw it today on FOX news at noon. An actor asks her if she can recognize poison ivy and she picks up a leaf and says something like "is this it?" and then realizes what she's doing and immediately drops the leaf. I hope my giving the details doesn't ruin the commercial for the AZers who haven't seen it yet.

That actor was Wally Dallenbach. He is a racecar driver and race announcer. He also has a hunting show on the outdoor channel.

Dang! The whole experience is ruined for me now! Just kidding :P, hopefully I'll see it soon.

I saw her on some show recently called "Ask The Pros" I think it was and she demonstrated masse shots or something...

Hu,
I don't believe that your supposition is correct. For several years consecutively her involvement with ESPN has increased, not decreased; and they have been actively seeking to increase her participation in their network. I believe that this year she has signed a new personal services agreement with ESPN that covers a broad range of appearances.

ESPN discovered several years ago that the WPBA broadcasts with her as the player got ratings far higher than the usual broadcasts; resulting in their "Black Widow Weekends" which get much better ratings than even the new tournaments.

In addition, she has done some pool announcing, bowling announcing, Jim Rome appearances, special voice over and introduction segments for the "Black Widow Weekend" broadcasts, and did celebrity interviews from the red carpet for ESPN at the ESPY's last year.

The commercial referred to in this thread was recently shot in Florida; at the expense of Bass Pro Shops; who placed it on ESPN (but it was in no way an ESPN project).

Of interest was Jeanette's schedule to shoot the commercial. She had to fly from Taiwan to LA (13 hours), 6 hour layover, fly to Orlando, quick shower, shoot 6 hours in the humid woods, fly back to San Diego. A total of 2 days and 2 nights without a bed or hotel; taking along a 4 year old. I believe the crew got to San Diego, slept for 16 hours, then got up to go to the WPBA Pro-Am event, back to sleep, wake up, play in the tournament, then off to the Marine base for personal appearance, sleep, get up, play again, off again to the Marine base for more pool with the jarheads. What a schedule....definitely not conducive to top level pool for someone with a bad back.

I saw the commecial, I thought it was cute. My husband thought it made her look dumb "is this poison ivy" while she picks it up. I don't feel it needs any analyzing. Jeannette is a very smart lady and the more exposure for her and our sport--the better.

PM,
My wife agreed with your husband. It looked to her like they were going for the "Jessica Simpson" idea of the dumb blonde.

I thought it was just funny, everyone knows it's just a commercial. It did not, however, capture any of Jeanette's personality. Better luck next commercial (when they pay you for a commercial, you just read the lines they write for you - she did not have any input into the commercial, though I believe she tried).

In last month's BD, an article about her stated that she has expanded what she does with ESPN acting as one of the hosts and reporters for the ESPY awards. She clearly has skills in this area and I look forward to seeing her in more things. What a great ambassador for our sport!

I just saw it. Jeanette is very comfortable in front of the camera and she delivers her "lines" well. And she is VERY camera friendly also, as in photogenic. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jeanette do more commercials. She's a NATURAL! She could even host a show! Remember you heard it here first. :)

...this makes her a TV insider! Wouldn't it be nice to have someone to be able to make the right introductions should there ever be a desire to expand ESPN's pool involvement to MEN's pool tournaments?!?

Just a thought.
