What do I think?
I think I don't get ESPN Classic, so it doesn't matter much. :(

You're not missing much:

1 - 2 PM 1999 Women's Tournament of Champions - 1st Semi Final
2 - 3 PM ditto only it's the Final

3 - 4 PM 2003 Women's Tournament of Champions - 1st Semi Final
4 - 5 PM ditto only it's the Final

5 - 6 PM 2004 Women's Trick Shots Semi Final
6 - 7 PM ditto only it's the Final

7 - 8 PM 2004 Women's Tournament of Champions 2nd Semi Final

My guess is that Jeanette wins all of the above.

I think its all crap anyway. I think Jeanette needs to pull her head out of the clouds and realize that she is NOT as good as she thinks she is. There is a strong difference between being the best and being the most marketable.

P-man,
Very strong words. Please tell us all exactly how good "she thinks she is."
I for one have never heard her fail to credit Allison and Karen for their dominant play. What have you heard personally???

She is CERTAINLY the most marketable and recognizable pool figure (male or female); and while this requires a certain amount of self-promotion, it DOES NOT MEAN THE PERSON INVOLVED HAS "HEAD IN THE CLOUDS". In my opinion, nothing could be further from the truth. A fair portion of the marketing is promoted by the media, not by the player.

She is capable of incredible play, contributes an incredible amount of time and energy to charitable causes (more than any other pool player by far), and plays under physical duress that most would find unbearable. There is a lot there to admire; precious little to criticize. My $.02.

So what are you saying, since Jeanette is not #1, she should not market herself? Besides which, you do realize the promotion for this day of Jeanette pool is being marketed by ESPN, not Jeanette. You do get that, right?

Well, she did well in the Worlds 14.1 tournament, she has a high run of 152, shes won plenty of titles both major and regular. That's pretty good in my book.

Granted I don't think she is as good as Allison or Karen, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't be hyped.

Jeanette is #1 in several areas...

She also has the highest exhibition fee of any player, male or female...and gets it...not to mention a very lucrative endorsement contract! More power to her, imo.

TAP TAP TAP ...... I agree wholeheartedly

The Black Widow

No matter how u slice it, she is a great player. A champion who has won many tournaments. She has been in the top 5 for years in the WPBA. She has done a lot for pool and all while enduring severe back pain. More people recognize The Black Widow than all the top 5 men players combined. If u like pool and want to c it promoted, then u should b glad for her accomplishments. Any player that can score hours of ESPN TV time for pool is OK in my book. The more pool on TV, the better it is for all of us pool lovers. And besides, she sure does look nice. ;)

I think Jeannete is a champion and also looked up to by many up and coming pool players (Yes, mostly women).

I have a funny story.

An IPT qualifier was held a few weeks ago at our local pool hall. A few nights before the tourney my friend and poolroom owner answers the phone and the conversation went something like this:

Him: Hello ______ Billiards
Her: Hi I have a few questions about the qualifier
Friday
Him: Ok, shoot.
Her: Are there any women registered yet?
Him: No, but I heard Jeanette Lee went two and out the past two
qualifiers.
Her: This is Jeanette Lee
Him: OMG, I'm so sorry. Are you coming?
Her: Isn't there a qualifier in Ohio the same weekend?

Talk about foot in mouth!!!

WHERE ARE YOU COMING FROM? YOU COULD NOT EVEN CARRY HER CUE!
You have oviously never meet the lady.  :(

Since we are telling stories

A couple of weeks ago at a league match, 6 or 8 young pool players were talkng about pool. I mentioned seeing Gabe Owens, Corey Duell, and Thorsten Holmann at Valley Forge. All I got was blank stares. Since most of the croud were women, I said Allison Fisher, Karen Corr, and Jeanette Lee. When I mentioned Jeanette Lee, it was like a light bulb was turned on. The response was "O yeah, The Black Widow". She's the one with the long black hair and always dresses in black. Yeah, she's good. They may not b pool sharks, but, seems they all knew her. That name recognition is good for pool. And, did I mention before, she sure does look nice also.

Jeanette is a credit to pool. She has brought recognition to the sport and has been a great player. She has always given of herself, to fans and others. Including myself. Simply because she is also a smart business person does not make her bad, in fact many should take notice of how she presents herself...IPT...Mikie and Keith were wonderful don't ya think!

From what I have seen she is a winner in the truest sense and projects that aura ...giving anyone who appreciates the beauty of it a tidbit of what it feels like to be a champion.

...on the downside she is a bit of a space invader.

Just for interest how did the pool room owner know at that stage whether any women had entered? My understanding was that IPT didn't even inform them of the numbers, let alone the names until just before the event. It was also my understanding that even after a pool room owner did know the numbers etc IPT wished the information regarding entrants not to be disclosed to anyone else until the entries were closed for the very reason of avoiding entrants shopping around like Jeannette seems to have been doing for the easiest qualifier  :D

Hey pharoah, have you ever met Jeanette in person?

As many other successful champions do, she has that "killer" look and persona when playing in a match. She even lightens up a bit from time to time during a match, but for the most part is completely focused on the table and her game. Talk to her after a match, in a more social setting, and she's one of the nicest people you'll meet. To watch her playing challenge matches at the DCC, joking with her opponents as well as the crowd, is quite a fun time. She's always receptive to picture/autogrpah requests and loves to chat with people while taking care of such requests. I myself am an autograph hound. Jeanette is by far one of the most enjoyable people I have met during my years following professional pool. There are many players that will give you an autograph, which I appreciate, but Jeanette also gives you some personality as well. You can't help but walk away with a smile after meeting her.

I believe her chairity work speaks for itself. I know she does considerable work with the WPBA charities as well as a number of local charities in the Indianapolis area.

This is a person who had to take time off from the game for yet another back surgery last fall. This year in the 3 WPBA events, she has placed 5th, 3rd, and 5th. 3 top-5's to start the year isn't too bad if you consider each of the 3 tournaments were won by a different player.

Funny, the other ladies on the WPBA recognize the exposure and attention she brings to the game and they aren't nearly as jealous as you are of her personal successes.

Corn rows?

I enjoy and respect her play, however, the cornrows are awful on her. That is the only thing I can remember.
Purdman:eek:
