Jeff Olney, What a stand up guy. NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Pookster you paid $6000 for a cue with fake Ivory and said nothing? I've got a fancy sneaky with tons of Ivory and real diamonds in it you can have for $3000! ;-) I believe I will give Andy Gilbert a call for my next cue. I've never heard any horror stories about him other than he is so busy that it takes a while.
 
This thread bums me out. I love my Olney cue so much, it's a simple cue but incredibly high quality and very affordable, the hit is better than anything else I've tried. All my dealing with Jeff have been top notch.

Sorry to hear about what happened, definitely sounds unfortunate and doesn't really fit with my experience with Jeff at all, so I'm just confused. Some things just seem very strange here.

it to somebody else in 5 days..

The cue builder blames the buyer for losing his opportunity..

Exactly.

Working with Jeff is great -- if you want what he's gonna build, on his time table and you get what you get -- or NO SOUP FOR YOU.

Cue builder vs CUSTOM cue builder.

If you don't want to take an order -- don't take an order -- say "No thank you", and move on. No harm at all.

Don't say -- "Ok, I can do that", take money, make verbal agreements and let one party think all is well -- then never make the cue, or sell it before you actually deliver and welch on your word. :eek:

It's been pointed out many times - this is no way to do business. But hey-- I can spend my money elsewhere - no worries.:p

I don't harbor ill for Jeff -- just wish all the time I wasted could have been put to use waiting in line for something I actually had a chance of getting.

For the record -- I don't flip cues (have yet to resell any of mine) and would have played with my intricate one forever. Now I don't know what I will do. All I wanted was a sack full of Olney's when I went to play pool. probably my fault.:rolleyes:

My cues from 3 continents away are better and actually get delivered -- so ironic.

My brother and I were huge fans of Jeff's work.

Then I guess Jeff got too comfortable with our orders and would put us off and take advantage of us. Jeff will probably tell a story of how I changed my whole cue design around and I didn't want to pay for it. I got the PM that says different.

But I soon found out, like deadstroke7 says, you git what you git, so don't throw a fit or I will 'round circle file' your order!(remember telling me that story Jeff? Guy walks in, places a cue order with Jeff, wants to put down a deposit, jeff declines cuz the guy only had little cash on him, so after the guy leaves, Jeff throws his order away because "he knows" he will never have the money to pay for it when it's done! The real kick in the nuts to this story is every time the guy called to check on the order, Jeff bull shits him and tells him "it's in the works, but with what you want, it takes EXTRA time!"

I had never sold any of my Olneys until 2 years ago, when a good friend of mine begged me to buy one Jeff had recently finished for me. The reason I sold it was I knew my relationship with Jeff wasn't the same anymore and I knew he wasn't gonna build the two cues Jeff and I designed together, that we both agreed on. He was gonna build me whatever the hell he wanted to. Was it wrong of me to want something different than a SW style Olney? Must of been...

Jeff, tell them the story about my jump/break cue! Hahahahaha!!!!! I never told you how pissed I was about it because I was relieved to finally get SOMETHING from you and you would have tried to spin it to be my fault some how that a jump cue and a break cue > a jump/break cue............which I specifically ordered........and agreed upon.......and also said......charge me extra if you need to...........

Jeff, you say I'm not allowed in your shop ever again. Have you noticed I use to come visit with you every 4-5 months up until 2 years ago. And haven't been back since.... Ever thought that I quit you instead of you quitting me????
You build a nice, clean cue. That doesn't mean you should try to piss on people that help keep your lights on...........

Nice wasted post about your positive transactions with Jeff. I guess his good customer service to you gives him a pass for what he did to the OP. I also think it's funny that he is getting a pass for calling the OP a stupid f***er and hung up on him (to which he did not dispute). In the sales world even if you disagree with something a customer said or did you should never resort to name calling like this, especially toward a repeat customer that has done business with you for years with 0 issues in the past.

All of the nut huggers make me want to vomit. I'm assuming you guys have been waiting a handful of years and think that if you make some positive comments that Jeff will bump you up in line so you only have to wait a couple of more years to get what he wants to give you. Good luck with that! You guys need to let Jeff do the talking for himself,,,, oh wait,,,, he did and insulted them. Jeff could've stopped this before it started and he chose not to. Jeff could've stopped this even after it started, but he chose to insult. IMHO he gets what he deserves.

Oh, and FYI, the guy that had his design circle filed still thinks he's going to get his cue someday. Pretty sad....

Good post but I really want to emphasize the bold.

I don't know what it is about a few people here on this forum who think they're doing some kind of good deed by blaming the OP or siding with someone who has openly admitted to horrible business practices with no remorse whatsoever. IE the Bob Farr post above. He asks "does the crime deserve the punishment"? Well yeah, liking someone's cues or them personally shouldn't shield them from criticism. Especially if the business does the unthinkable and blames the customer, shows no remorse, is a repeat offender.

This is why I said from the very beginning that the actions of the OP don't matter at all. What matters is how someone runs their business and how they perceive the buying public, their repeat customers and their own reputation.

It doesn't matter one bit if the customer failed the business. That is a part of doing business. What matters is the standard of integrity that the business hold itself up to.

Literally those that defend horrible business practices has resulted in buyers hiding in the shadows after being screwed over because they fear coming forward. Something that should never happen. Some people seem more than content to buddy up with a cue maker than hold a business accountable and prevent their peers from being screwed over down the road.

Just unbelievable.

The thing that makes the least sense to me are the guys that defend those actions because they LIKE Jeff's cues and or him as a person..

I'll tell you one thing, if Jeff was my friend, after his first post I would've been calling him and saying, "Yo, Jeff buddy, what the hell are you thinking? I kind of understand selling the cue, but man you gotta get on this and make it right, it ain't gonna go well for you otherwise".

Hell, offer him a hugely discounted cue, or even a free one, but nip this in the bud NOW, before it permanently damages your reputation.

It don't matter if you make the best cues in the world, it will hurt you if you don't fix this.

but, I'm not friends with Jeff, don't know him from Adam.

All I heard was good stuffs about Jeff. I was planning to get one of his cues due to lotta recommendations from my pool mates. What a shame, and felt bad for the OP who waited years for his cue. If it was me, I'd go nuts!

Sunday comes and almost goes, busy weekend for me. My sons 11th birthday party was Saturday, the inLaws have another Birthday Dinner for him on Sunday, then its family night so we start watching a movie.

Opps I better call Jeff.
8:19pm I call and leave him a message--- Hey Jeff, got busy and forgot.

If you believe all that your bullshi- detector needs calibration. Jeff never said he sold it for 4 times as much, op is full of it. The deal was pick it up Sunday, the "Sunday night" part entered the story after he, by his own admission, forgot - or didn't have the cash.

I sold the Mosconi Schon for 4 times what I was asking, too late for you to get that cue but I do have the Dufferin which Irving Crane used to win all his championships. $15,000 today only just for you. Hurry before I sell it for 4 times that amount.

My question for the op is who is Brad? Olney said Brad is banned from his shop. Is Brad someone the op knows? Sounds like there is a history here.

He DIDN'T claim that Jeff SOLD it for 4 times as much, he claimed that Jeff TOLD him someone offered him 4 times as much for it. Those are COMPLETELY different things and if YOU can't tell the difference or think that the second implies the first, then you have serious comprehension issues.

You have taken NO time to read any of the POSTS.
It is stated multiple times who BRAD is. Brad is the ONE who told Jeff that his Philipino cue plays as good as Jeffs do.
And so did I.

Jeff was told when HE called on SATURDAY, That it would be SUNDAY evening before I could make it up. If you would have read and followed along, you would have seen all this.

But apparently you have THE DUMB.
