JJ ball cleaning foul

At the end of the day rules are rules and there's nothing you can do about it. I still think it is bs that the ref can interact with balls on the table while the clock continues. That would be like the last remaining seconds of a basketball game and the ref cleans the ball, oh sorry the clock ran out you lost Lakers. In every other ball sport on Earth, time out occurs when players are no longer hmm, what's the word? Oh yeah, "playing".
I agree on your point about interaction with the balls and clock continuing to run. Unless of course there's a rule clearly stating that it will. You logic falls short once you compare the game of pool to actual sports.
In this example Jeremy essentially forfeited his turn and the ref let him.
This is a stretch... JJ had time to play the shot. He choose not to even bother getting back down. If I was to hazard a guess. I'd say once he heard the shot clock he thought he had an argument to further extend his time at the table, so didn't want to risk a hurried shot.

Talking about Higgins? He was invited to a hotel room for a meeting under false guises. Once he got there, you could tell he was uncomfortable. There’s video footage. He talks in hypotheticals never really agreeing to do anything. He has no idea who these people are. Gangsters? Bookies? He gets out of there. They turn out to be journalists trying to hook him for match fixing. He never actually threw any matches. No evidence was found of him fixing matches, but he was punished for not immediately coming forward to the WST to disclose the meeting.
You shouldn't post facts. It gets in the way of mindless banter on the forum...

Maybe it was an insect JJ wanted remove from the cue ball. So if it's alive we stop the clock. But if it's deceased uh squished all over the cue ball???? Status of limitations has expired along with the bug. I Guess 🤷
Making something up and then applying ridiculous scenarios to your made up thing doesn’t belittle anything I said, because I didn’t say any of those things, and the scenarios you made up aren’t actually rules or things that happened. Say hello to this lovely straw man.

There wasn’t a bug on the cue ball when JJ asked for it to be cleaned, dead or alive. There is no rule regarding dead bugs and live bugs. There is a rule saying that the clock doesn’t stop if the player asks for the CB to be cleaned, and based on Marcel’s comment at the time, they had been repeatedly told that rule.

Hot take:

The entire event is a gimmick. Gimmick rules. Gimmick format. The event is set to have drama and surprises. That is why they asked Earl back. The ref doesnt 'shush' the crowd because Matchroom wants that shit...

Yes, we forget context sometimes and speak to issues based on (only slightly comparable) personal experience.

Exactly... Mosconi isn't about quality pool. It's about drama and excitment. It's produced that in spades.

Good job Matchroom

I'm hoping an inspired Team USA comes out strong today. Despite the mental error and loss, I think JJ's play inspired his team to dig deep and arrive today with intense focus and heart. A captain leads by example and JJ certainly did in his match last night up until the mental error.

The event has been referenced more than a few times in threads and it does appear it happened.

I'd be inclined to agree with what others said about it though, that Shaw's stoppage was appropriate, given the unexpected foreign interference that was dealt with...insect on the ball, vs. alleged chalk spot.

Different circumstances, though both had impact on shot clock.
No I remember it now and it was different. Was a fly above the balls which the referee decided to try and remove by himself without the request of jayson… both are very different situations imo and not alike

As I am oft- reminded by pool:
Desire plays a relativey small role in the outcome.

In your other examples, no the ref shouldn't say anything as it has nothing to do with the time counting down. In this example Jeremy essentially forfeited his turn and the ref let him.
In a previous doubles match, the ref "let" the Euros shoot out of turn, and as soon as the offender shot, the ref called a foul. In other words, the ref knew the player was shooting out of turn, the ref "let" him shoot out of turn, then the ref called a foul. That foul cost the Euros the match and a point in the overall score.

I would think that one of the roles of a team captain is to make sure that the players alternate turns when playing doubles.

He had 12 seconds left, asked for the ball to be cleaned, they cleaned it and placed it back and 4,3,2,1 foul 4 to 4 Alcaide gets BIH runs it out.

Said no one told him it was the rule and the clock should have stopped.
Not believable that the Captain of the team didn't know the rules.

Looks like JJ had a bet down on the Europeans and dumped.

Where were Jeremy's team mates (co-captain) when this was happening? Why didn't someone warn him when the clock was running down? That's what I'm wondering. Somone must have noticed that he had no extension and the clock was running, or weren't they paying attention?
