And the British fans were yelling while he was playing to throw him off his game.

That's why we needed Earl there. Earl would have shut that crap down. The concept of "losing gracefully" is idiotic. The Brits use every dirty trick they can get away with while the USA "loses gracefully".
WTF??? Go to a MC in Vegas. Its the same deal. If you think Earl would have handled this environment well you're delusional.

Yeah agreed. David didn't play perfect, granted, but JJ was carrying his giant brass nuts around in a wheelbarrow that set with some of the outs he turned in. I just don't see Earl fading the heat like JJ did.

Where were Jeremy's team mates (co-captain) when this was happening? Why didn't someone warn him when the clock was running down? That's what I'm wondering. Somone must have noticed that he had no extension and the clock was running, or weren't they paying attention?

The problem is that he walked back to his chair with 10 sec left. The ref barely had time to pick up the cue ball and put it back down. Jeremy realized the problem when the buzzer went off at 5 sec. I don’t know if any of the rest of the team knew what was going on, but there was only a couple-second window to say anything.

My point being that someone should have warned him immediately, IF they were paying attention. And what's with a five second "buzzer?" That's pretty much useless. A ten second warning is the norm when using a shot clock.

I am accustomed to team events that don't allow coaching and a warning from a team mate would be coaching.

Haven't heard a whole lot about another lame performance by our '#1' player. So far he's 2-3 including the team set. Something about this event that just isn't his thing. He's had a few bright spots over the yrs but way too many bad ones for a player of his caliber. The team deal and all the rah-rah shit just doesn't fit the guy.

He never should have been made vice captain, and shouldn’t have accepted it when it was offered.

To quote the great Barry Hearn "Were you entertained?" that's all that matters to Matchroom. Mosconi Cup is not snooker or even serious Pool, it's meant to be raucous and fun and it "Puts bums on seats"
Imagine pool becoming like darts, you wouldn't hear the millionaire players moaning about crowd noise then.

I agree. Don't think they really need a vice capt. myself. They need a capt. to do schedules/pairings and that's it. Its really more of an honorary deal imo.

Does MC prevent it? Unless the answer is yes, your point is not relevant to the conversation.
I could be wrong here but i don't think outside help is allowed. These guys know the rules/regs. Shouldn't need a nanny at this stage.

I agree. Its part pool/part WWF. Before they go over they need to get a table and pay a crowd(pay their bar tab) to be as loud as possible and get used to the lunacy.

Not believable that the Captain of the team didn't know the rules.

Looks like JJ had a bet down on the Europeans and dumped.

You believe double J would commit treason against the republic of Texas? Sell out to the euros for a few silver marks?

Shirley you jest.

What a lost opportunity... Recognizing what was going on, all Team Europe had to do was to walk over to JJ and hand him the cue ball. It would have gone down as an epic act of true sportsmanship.
Should the US have done the same thing when Europe had the foul for shooting out of turn?

My thought (if you happen to watch again) is that instead of saying anything, is when he heard the 5 bell, he gets down immediately and just shoots as best he can.
ANYTHING, and I mean anything is better than giving a top 10 player in the world BIH with 4 easy balls left.

Disagree. While I think Alcaide is a douche bag, I don't think this particular circumstance should count against his sportsmanship. JJ screwed up, why should he be rewarded with BIH?
OT, but didn't warrant its own thread: read a couple posts here with this same opinion. I haven't seen this about him. Is there some incident, in a other tournaments where he was douchey? Or was it in interviews etc?

Was it his (JJ's) job to know the rules? Asking for a friend...
