I must tell ya that I miss my AZ. The last three years have been an obsession of mine. Real pool players, instructors, promotors, cuemakers, personal reporter (JAM), cue dealers and collectors, machinery builders, opinions, Juston Coleman and Frank Glen, Blud, Drivemaker, interactions from flame wars to flirting. Is it just me or have things just plain got boring or repetitive. It may just be me. Maybe I have been around to long. I hope you all have a safe and Happy New Year. I also want to thank ya for helping somebody out next year. You did real good this year!!!!!
God Bless, Purdman:rolleyes:

Hi Purdman!

I think you are right, because I have the same feeling. I have been less active here, since I see kinda the same looking threads over and over again:eek:
Besides, now we have the board policed
Oh, and I haven't seen Drivemaker for quite sometime...I think he have changed his username...again? :D

There's some truth in what you say, Purdman. No doubt, the same topics come up over and over again and these days, and when I glance at page one of the main forum, I almost know in advance what will be there.

Still, at least from my vantage point, there was no drop off in the number of threads containing things that matter to me. I'll add that the way posters interacted when the major events were in progress continues to make everyone feel like they are at the event, when, in fact, some are and some aren't. I think that the coverage of the majors (Derby City, BCA Open, WPC, US open, IPT KOH) by our posters this year was the best it has ever been.

Each of us looks for something different on AZB, but for this poster, pool nostalgia, game theory, tournament coverage, player comparisons, and the evolution and politics of pro pool are the thngs that get me most excited. As threads on these subjects remain abundant, I'm still a happy camper here on the forum.

Then again, there was a slight dropoff in the game theory department. I feel I should take a little bit of the blame as I didn't start nealry as many "how would you play this?" threads in 2005 as I did in 2004, despite the fact that other posters showed great enthusiasm for those threads, both publicly and through private messages they sent me.

Since I joined the forum about three years ago, there has been one aspect of game theory that I think we can all do a lot better with. I'm of the opinion that many a league player (often identifying their APA rating) that asks for advice about a position that arose in a match of theirs wants to know what the percentage play is for a player at their level. Invariably, the player is offered nothing more than the shot that is best for a top professional. Defensive play tends to be shunned, and anything short of the most agrressive possible shot is deemed too passive. Personally, I've tired of recommending anything passive or defensive in these threads, because I know that such recommendations will be drowned out soon enough. The result, I believe, is that we are giving players advice that could be better. Pool is not about spectacular shiots, but instead about consistency and playing the percentages. How often we all forget. Just one man's opinion.

OK, so I've suggested one way in which the forum might be better. Who else has an idea or two?

I've only been posting 3-4 months, and lurking about 2-3 months prior. My question is, what are people looking for? What have I been missing before I started posting? Maybe things started to turn sour after I started posting. ;)

It's simply a fact of being around the internet forums for several years. After a while, everthing starts looking the same, even though the names may change. I remember when Frank Glenn was a newbie on internet forums, as was Billy, and even Blud.

Well, we have a police guard on board now, so people are scared calling names and stuff;)

I know I'd love to read some posts that offer real content instead of the complaints that have been around recently.

Ah yes, rsb at 5 - 15 posts per day ... those were the days ... a bit boring perhaps, but the flame wars were pretty infrequent back then. The discussions were similar though, you've got a point Fred.

Chill out Mr. Wilson, this wasn't aimed at you. I have been dealing with Home Owners Associations long enough to know what's going on here. Moderate on good buddy. This post was not a complaint, it is a fact. Is it just me? I don't think so! More POWER to ya. I am waiting for your post containing "real content". Ban and delete away, to your hearts content.
Don;)

Purd,

I went away for awhile just to take a break. I come back and find that DM is banned, he would have great discussions, but I guess he got a little wild while I was away. I think it's pretty hippocritical that there is a room dedicated to his tournament but the man is banned.

Alot of people seem to have mellowed out. There don't seem to be anymore wars between you and Blud either.

I looked for the WoW but didn't see anything new.

It may just be a lull cause of the holiays. Maybe after everyone gets back to work and gets stressed again we'll see somemore excitement.

Hope you had a good Christmas!

Nice to hear from you Jim. How's the family doing? Hope you had a great holiday! The forum is about as exciting as watching pool on TV these days. The only excitemant around here is KT. The man who makes a living selling bogus stuff to the ignorant masses. He seems to have found a new untaped group of em in the pool world. Money isn't everything. I am not sure that goes for pool players.

I started lurking and posting here a few years ago when Fast Larry discovered RSB and proceeded to virtually destroy it. I always thought it a little slow and far too politically correct compared to RSB, but it still was interesting. Lately, I must admit it seems like I don't even open a lot of threads because I know they are repeat topics and people will say the same thing they've said 10 times before. I think that this is an unavoidable result of a limited topic (pool). Afterall, how many different topics of discussion about pool are there?

It is still okay, I just skip a lot of threads. Of course I will miss some very interesting threads that way, but I can't read them all anyway.

Don't make me start another "Men without Honor" thread  :D

No worries, I won't. I learned my lesson.

I agree with you whole heartedly Purdman, and jhendri2's post. Catching up with what the whole family is doing has it's priority too.

Cheers and best wishes to ya Purdman.
