Joe Rogan promotes AZ forum!

Joe's an awesome guy, but I didn't really agree with half of what he just said.

Sure, MMA does translate very well between various cultures, languages, and even to TV. However to say that winning a fight has more significance and value than winning at any other sport is a pretty offside statement.

In my mind, competition is competition, regardless of what sport it is. Its the idea of two athletes training and devoting their lives to perfecting an art, and then matching up their skill against one another. Whether you punch a guy out or shoot balls into a pocket is irrelevant. Its the dedication and spirit of competition that is to be valued.

I think he's a bit biased on MMA for a good reason.:thumbup: Don't care about who agrees with what he said on the video or who doesn't. He promoted the site and pool in general.:)
 
The reason a last second basket being hit HAS significance is because most people have played competitively at some point and have a frame-of-reference to apply to it- while most everybody has had a couple of fights in their lives, few have actually fought "for their lives" and fewer still have been trained to do it.

I have nothing but respect for Joe and the guy is great for MMA and pool, but this video reminds me of a fight manager being interviewed about 30 years ago who said, "I firmly believe Gerry Cooney could be the first BILLION dollar athlete." This was, of course, just prior to Cooney's having his butt kicked in the ring and being virtually run out of boxing- there's always hyperbole in sports.:wink:

There's hyperbole in all sports, and certainly in boxing and MMA promotion.

I think the point of the quote is that you can be completely dedicated to anything in life, to the point that you spend all of your time doing it and success or failure makes or breaks you. But you're putting yourself on the line to a different degree when you're fighting, and a dangerous one.

While professional football players are now being shown to have serious degenerative illnesses later in life, hockey players get all sorts of roughed up and etc, there's no sport where your physical well being is as directly and immediately potentially impacted as it is in fighting.
 
I agree 100% with what Joe said. MMA will likely be bigger than anything. No other sport gets me standing on my couch screaming "Choke that mfer! Choke that mfer!!!" while pumping my fist so hard I knock over a lamp and have it explode into a million tiny pieces. I love pool, I love golf, I love world cup soccer, I love zipping my r/c helicopter around..... but NOTHING gets me pumped more than a great UFC fight....nothing.

I think ppeople are taking Joe's promo out of context. Guys, it's a PROMO for MMA, thats what Joe does...:wink:

I've never met Joe, but will look forward to when I do. I can respect a fellow Joysee boy that tells it like it is!

I have to agree. I was (and have on a number of occasions) jumping up and down infront of my TV yelling knock that mother fcker out LYOTO!!! Knock that mother fcker out!!!!! My dogs even got into it. They were barking but it sure sounded like they were saying the same thing :). Joe is awesome!

Joe is a very foreward guy, and I can appreciate that.. Calling carlos mancia out.. knocking him out.. etc
A celebrity thats not swayed entirely by $$ and has the balls to say it how he sees it has more credibility in my mind.. Mentioning AZ is BOSS.. Does he have an account here?

big deal, I can go up to the local redneck bar and watch trailer trash get drunk and be a complete embarrassment to the human society, but I don't because in my opinion it is insignificant.

I am dissapoint.

Love the fact that he mentioned pool though, we need athletes/stars/celebritys doing that as often as possible.
