I've got a beautiful 1997 John Guffey 8 pointer that I'm considering selling. The cue is in almost perfect condition, and has a wonderful stained birdseye maple forearm with 8 ebony points (4 high and 4 low) with four black/blue/red/blue veneers on each point. The butt is ebony, with eight birdseye wood windows, separated by black/blue/red/blue/black veneers, to match the veneers in the points. The butt also has stitch ringwork, with black/blue/black veneers. The joint and both shafts have matching stitch ringwork. The joint is a flat-faced, phenolic/wood-to-wood, with a 3/8X10 pin.
It has the original black and red pressed Irish linen wrap.
The cue comes with two original John Guffey shafts, which are about 12.6mm, and matching joint protectors. The shafts have the standard Guffey fiber ferrules and Le Pro tips. It weights approximately 19 oz, with either shaft. The cue rolls straight together and the butt is dead straight separately, but both shafts have a very, very slight, almost imperceptible wobble when rolled separately. Both shafts have slight chalk bluing, as do the ferrules.
For those who don't know, John Guffey studied cuemaking under Jimmy Ingram and finished his first cue in 1981. Guffey was one of the founders of the American Cuemakers Association, and in addition to his cuemaking, he has written numerous articles for The American Cueist, Texas Billiard News, The National Billiard News, as well as other pool publications. A former collegiate and road player, his cues are known as terrific, great hitting cues. This cue was hand made by John in his one-man shop in Edmond, OK. His cues were featured in the January 1997 American Cueist magazine. Guffey stopped making cues a few years ago and his cues are very hard to find on the used market.
I'm considering selling this because I'm a shooter, not a collector. This is too nice for me to shoot with, especially at my skill level.
This cue has a Guffey blank, NOT a Burton Spain blank.
I'm listing this cue with a Buy It Now price of $825, plus actual shipping costs
International buyers will be responsible for any extra shipping costs.
I'm interested in one trade, if I don't sell it on eBay first:
