John Morra vs Tyler Styer

I wonder if he's slowed down since changing hands
Well he complained about having neck issues and blamed that on his eye dominance, thus the switch. But I imagine it doesn't help staying down on the ball for so long.

"I'm gonna hit it right here!"
"No here."
"No here."
"Here?"
"No over here."
"Yes here."
"Wait. I think over there was better."
"I see it now. Just a bit this way."
...ten more seconds pass
"Now how hard should I hit it?? Hmmm"
...

He's super impressive on many levels. The switching hands thing is one of the craziest things I've ever seen. Just wish he'd lighten the load on himself and play with a faster rhythm.

The funny thing is Kaci plays strong as hell on the clock. He doesn’t need any of that extra time.
Kid Delicious (Danny Basavich) used to play slow, and the same thing was true of him. When he was on the clock, he could play great. I saw him run a six-pack on Corey Deuel at a Glass City Open semifinals with the shot clock in force..

20 second clock with one extension per rack is plenty at nine ball. You don't need 30 seconds to figure out which ball to shoot next.
Exactly. I can post multiple video I have of running 8 and 9 ball racks in under 90 seconds (break to last ball).

20 seconds is the time you'd get from the time the cue ball stops rolling. So actually 25+ seconds a shot. It is actually a long time for 95% of the shots that come up. For a rack of nine ball that equates to a little over 3 minutes if you run out from the 1 ball. Which really isn't fast.

Matchroom should do a 9 ball Shootout type tournament. Would be entertaining and interesting to see how the pros would handle it.

That's literally what's running through my head on nearly every shot...lol. I wish I was as good as Johnny though.

At the US Open last year when it was in the final 64 but before there was a shot clock, every player was playing very deliberate. Including people who generally play quickly. Sanchez-Ruiz. Wiktor Zielinski. Filler. And so on.

If you guys want to go play for a living and spend 10 seconds a turn and reach the elite level of pool, go ahead and lead the way. But to watch the best players in the world while sitting on your couch watching a TV set and complain that they aren't entertaining enough is pretty absurd.

AZBilliards is a tough place man. Negative posts about Shaw, Derby City, Archer, commentators, Morra/Styer, you name a topic and we'll get 10:1 responses complaining about it. Is this the best we can do people?

In response to the title of the thread I'll say this is great news. Tyler is playing really well. We played a bank set at Derby and he was striking them cleaner than any US player I've seen, it was more in line with the top euro players. His Fargo has been moving steadily higher over the last few years and outside of SVB and Sky I think he is one of our toughest players. I am glad to see him continuing to get in the ring with 800FR players like Morra and continuing to pursue his dream of breaking through to the highest level. If he can become the next US player to win majors against the Euro and Asian players than I'll root for him, even if I have to wait an extra 10 seconds a shot to watch him do it.
