John Schmidt High Run Video

After practicing straight pool on my 9 foot home table with 4 1/2 inch pockets for a few months lately, I can tell you that way too many shots rattle out of the pockets for my liking.

I think that I recall John saying once that he had around a 200 ball run on something like a 4 1/2 inch Diamond and that he felt that was a bigger accomplishment than his 400 ball run.

To me, straight pool is about running as large a number of balls as possible, so I tend to agree that really tight pockets takes away from the thrill of the game.

He had a 294 on a Diamond. Not too shabby. Highest run on a diamond that I have ever seen.

what size are the pockets on bills table then?

Pockets are 5 inch just like a standard Gold Crown. The Metro has the same slates and rails as a standard Gold Crown. Same exact size as the Gold Crowns at Steinway Billiards where the World Tounrament is held. The Tournament Edition Gold Crowns and Metros have 4.5 inch pockets.

On behalf of Many Viewers, a bunch of them players in my 14.1 League of which i shared the link with via Facebook and Email.

I would like to thank John, Bill, and Dennis for providing this video for all of us for FREE. There is so much knowledge in this great footage and a wealth of information given up in the commentary.

You guys are the best :smile:

Yeah, that was great of John to decide to put it out there for free. And thanks Steve for spreading the word to the league you created out of thin air. A rising tide raises all ships.

Can't wait to watch! What part of Cal. is John in? I do a lot of traveling to LA for work so if he's close by it'd be great to get a lesson or two from him.

How long would you be willing to put up with John and Thorsten?
I have to figure let them go at it for 6-8 hours a day each after putting on new cloth
and with new balls it is only a matter of time before they break the record.

To have a 500+ on video, heck I would throw in a couple hundred to help make that happen.

John has stayed here numerous times since we are best friends. Corey spent about a week here and finally set his high run at 229.

Bill how the hell do you rack the stack by hand?

It's not really that hard. The cloth gets trained after about a month of breakshots so the balls find their little dimples when you slide them into place. Danny Barouty and Oliver Ortmann are good at it too.

I've tried and failed miserably, id love to get the hang of it, whenever I get a Pool table at the house I suppose
and never seen anyone else do it though

If you "train" or "tap" the table by creating the dimples in the correct places ahead of time it will be really easy.

I learned over the years here that John is a good friend of yours. I just figured that Thorsten is probably
the only player in the world that I would favor over John in a long match. Having both of them go at it
trying to 1-up eachother and hopefully eventually beat Willie's record would the the greatest thing
ever to have on video.

But obviously all three of you cannot just take weeks out of your life for free so I would be happy to
chip in just for decent chance to see it happen.

I've added the times of all the break shots in a comment. YouTube is nice enough to turn all of those times into links to the times in the video.
