John Schmidt Shows the Way

I have to give John Schmidt all the credit in the world for how he is continually trying to come up with ways to earn enough money to stay in the struggle of playing men's professional pool. He is constantly coming up with new ideas and running them by everyone here on AZ and on his travels to see if there is any interest.

He came on here a few years ago and asked if anyone would be interested in staking him to a trip to the US Open. At that time a big percentage of the members here thought it was a con or something. All except Mr. Purdman. He staked John, John won the US Open and the rest as they say is history. If John never came on here and put himself out there and Purdman didn't take him up on his offer he might never have even went to the Open, much less win it, and what a shame that would have been.

Since the Open he has asked and gotten funding for other tournaments from members here. He's offered lessons, even letting the clients stay at his house. He finally got some sponsorship with OB-1 Cues after never stopping beating the bushes for years. This is a man that the fans can look up to and the other pros should copy. He gets off the couch and works to get his name out there. He thinks out of the box and hits gold sometimes. And he does all of this so he can continue to play the game he loves, and the game that doesn't pay him one-tenth of what he's worth. Johnnyt

hi

thanks johnny for the praise.i might fail in this pool raquet but it wont be from not trying.

thanks obcues and diamond billiards.

first of all i want to wholeheartedly thank diamond billiards midlothian va for agreeing to sponsor me for the next year and that will help immensely to defray my tourney costs.
cindy and her son thomas have opened a beatiful poolroom with great food ,perfect tables and seating.great location and atmosphere.
with all the poolrooms that are closing its nice to see a place like this.
thomas the 27 year old owner is a good guy and him and i have become friends .
he is looking to improve his game and compete at a higher level in pool.
its refreshing to be around a poolroom owner who is not jaded or negative,he sees life in a positive upbeat way and seems to me feels if you put together a great place and treat people nice they will come in.
i think they are going to be successful and if there is anything i can do to help i will.
thanks a million everybody at diamond billiards im proud to be associated with you and you have made me feel that feeling is mutual.

John is a smart guy. Reminds me of Nick Varner.

Even when Nick was winning everything in sight he was a heck of a work-horse/businessman. Besides winning tournaments he was selling cues, giving exhibitions, running a pool-room, etc.

In Nashville, you would know when Nick came through, because all of the sudden all of the poolrooms had stocks of autographed Falcon cues, LOL. I guess having a champion like Nick selling to you is hard to fade! :) I look back now and wish I had bought one of those!

As they always say, hard work pays off.

John is the man. Besides being a champion players, he also plays the part of a champion. He is always professionally dressed, he always seems enthusiastic about the game and he represents his sponsers and our sport very well. Thanks, john!

I think John's charisma has been and is going to continue to be an ingredient to his success. His witty banter at the table makes him a lot funner to watch and should get him more good opportunities especially if the pay-per-view pool scene really takes off.

In the future I could see John Scmidt vs Alex Pagulyan live pay-per-view where neither player even had to put up their own money.

I want to agree with everything good everyone else has said about John in this thread, but I also wanted to add that he gets a big thumbs up from me for posting as frequently as he does on here despite the haters that all pros are going to have. Also, I heard him doing commentary on one of the Shane Alex matches and I thought he was really solid at that too.

hi

thanks everybody im glad people have noticed how hard ive worked to get where im at.without the people like you who support pool and propool i would have nowhere to go.so thank you again everybody . its funny you say im funny at the table ,its just that lately ive taken a new attitude to be myself and not be so hard on myself if i lose.

i love your attitude john. they broke the mold when they made you. keep your head up and learn to play cards. always action and much more honest lol

Hey John, being a former golf nut, I'd love to see your swing( youtube maybe) on my computer screen. How about some day recording yourself hitting a small bucket for all the golf aficianados here. That is unless you want to remain under the radar..lol.
