John Schmidt vs Corey Deuel

Did anyone have a problem with Coreys post match interview when he said something along the lines of, "after yesterday, I just lost interest and didn't really care". Very lil respect being shown to Tar there, when they're paying you for your best effort. And after the last ball goes down, first thing Corey asks, "are we getting checks?"

That was 100% in response to what John did.

I don't blame him at all for not sitting their after the match and listening to any of the crap John was going to come up with at that point after the match was over, he managed to get Corey out of his game and win, and he was all shits and giggles again.

You allow crap like that to take place and that is the result you will get.

Why is there SUCH a double-standard in pool????? You guys all act like these pros should act holier than thou and be a good little mench but the fact remains that nearly ALL pro athletes (over 90%) of all sports act up.

Tiger cusses and spits and throws his clubs when he mishits a shot

"Countless" pro tennis players bash their rackets or swat balls into the stadium in disgust

Tyson bit Holyfield's ear off almost completely

How many pro football players have fights, cheat, sell drugs, attempt murder, beat up girls, etc?

Hockey? Exactly.

Every couple of weeks the "chirping" starts about how this pro or that pro doesn't "act like a pro." Give it a break -- it's getting old.

Pro is defined as someone who does something at a high level and for a living. Sure, we all want our favorite pros to act like Ben Stein and deadpan and wear bow ties all the time but none do because that's not how people act while under pressure and playing for the cash.

Stop with the critical assessments of these guys' personalities when many of you prob kicked your dog when you got home from work last night.

I wish there'd be MORE sh1t-talking and MORE controversy and MORE pissing battles. Otherwise, you have a show like Repo Man where everyone pays their car payment on time and they just sit around and play Cribbage all day.

Maybe next time someone acts-up to Corey he'll clock him the way he did to Charlie Williams...and then we have action people.

I think many of you should join a chess forum:
http://www.chessforum.com

and leave the pool players here alone.
What he said.

well said

If he was so uninterested in playing the ten ball, he shoulda just not played, instead of being all mopey and collecting the $1,000 for that set.

You are 100% correct. anyone who tries to stick up for or justify John's actions are clueless..... Heres a newsflash for everyone... When you are a big time established billion dollar sport in this country and your players are making millions the players can act like fools and spectators will think they are colorful and it will generate more interest. BUT.. when you are a second rate sport in this country still trying to break 50 year old stereotypes and your top players are struggling to make ends meet, when those players act like fools and assholes you kill any interest from potential sponsors. I had a conversation about a month ago with a good player and I was telling him that pool in the U.S. needs to have one tour and board of governors. Someone like Greg Sullivan would be perfect to run it. Have Mark Griffin, Justin from TAR etc. on the board. DRUG TEST, clean up the sport. Get rid of the dumpers and cheaters. Run it like Roger Goodell is running the NFL. Than maybe you get organized and can present a united package to potential sponsors. Not everyone for themselves and the little cliques that have ruined pool forever... Do you know what the player i was talking to said? " well if the sponors put up some serious money than maybe the players will clean up their act" !!! LOL ANOTHER NEWSFLASH.. the sponsors dont NEED the pool players, the players need the sponsors

It's not a double standard. All of us on this side of the topic would say that all of the examples you give are ALSO unacceptable. Your argument is that it's OK for pro pool players to be jerks because all these other pro sports people are jerks too? Have you ever considered that NONE of them should be acting like this - that NONE of this behavior is OK?

This post reminded of a line from a great movie:

"Your shower shoes have fungus on them. You'll never make it to the bigs with fungus on your shower shoes. Think classy, you'll be classy. If you win 20 in the show, you can let the fungus grow back and the press'll think you're colorful. Until you win 20 in the show, however, it means you are a slob." ~ Crash Davis
