We only recognize what we're familiar with.
You are certainly on the right track.....I am limited to how I can explain something that actually connects to the whole game.....to isolate this "throwing the ball into a zone" technique isn't ideal and wouldn't have been the way I would have chosen it...but in a forum you just have to kind of "go with the flow".
At the very beginning of this thread John Schmidt talked skeptically about aiming because "how do you allow for spin and deflection" was one of his points and rightfully so..However, he knows how to USE spin and/or deflection to create Zones in Golf and Pool.....he plays golf so I know he understands Zone Play at a higher level than most players and would understand my points very well .....as a matter of fact I'm convinced that John and I would agree with each other on almost ALL of the points I'm making, even though we may describe them differently or even have a different way of looking at them....the common denominator would be that we BOTH use Zones for shot-making AND position play....he's a straight pool champion and I assure you he is very familiar with zones in his position play.....these two things are synonymous with each other..my original point is the complete perception of World Class playing involves SEEING ZONES to Maximize margin for error....that's the main thing that separates you from someone like John or me.....we SEE THESE THINGS naturally and I'm trying to explain something that you will see if you just give yourself the right information and don't let yourself give up on a new way of thinking..... what it comes down to is "no matter if you think YOU CAN or think YOU CAN'T...YOU ARE RIGHT"....once you start seeing the zone of the pocket and the table you will think it's humorous that you couldn't before...."We only recognize what we're familiar with" ....and such is life
Maybe CJ can correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like this can help your overall pocketing skills. I think once you get the hang of the method, then pocketing balls at any speed and with any english is easier to adjust for. If that makes any sense.
