As most of you know we leave Monday for the Texas leg of the Legends and Champioms Pool Tour.
We will be heading to Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christy and El Paso. Do we have any Texans here that can recomend the best places for Real Texas BBQ? We like babyback ribs and brisket, your input is very much appreciated. We can't wait, Thanks Y'all

When in Dallas for Ribs, Brisket and sausage... Randy White's on Preston Rd. in Frisco Tx.

dont want to hurt anyone's feelings buti live in austin and rudys and saltlick are way over rated. go to the towns of luling or elgin. thats where the best bar b que is.

if they serve it on a plate you're in the wrong place. butcher paper is the fine china of texas.
luling city market in luling tx. 60 miles east of san antonio towards houston, near I 10.

I had quite a bit of BBQ in the 15 years I lived in Texas, some of it was great! But my favorite comes from Coopers in Llano. Never done the mail order, but the resturaunt food is the best! http://www.coopersbbq.com/ Not much else to see or do in Llano though.

Louie Muellers in Taylor (close to Austin) is also excellent. (as mentioned) I used to eat there all the time when I lived in Round Rock.

I also love Rudys. It may be a chain, but it's still always very good. Still have a bottle of BBQ sauce in the fridge from my last visit.

Now your reading my mind.
I agree Coopers has great BBQ.

Can't wait for deer hunting season to make a stop by there.

Put up or Shut up

I'll see you boys on Friday at The Grand in Austin. I will bring some of my ribs. So bring an appetite and a bib. Yall teach me how to play pool and I'll teach you how to cook. I think Coopers is way overpriced and sucks most of the time.
Rudy's is tasty especially that cream corn. What about Busters BBQ in Lakeway. They cook low and slow over some pecan wood and make a mean brisket. But their beans suck and probably have something to do with a yankee recipe.

Angelo's in Ft. Worth - unfortunately a bit of a haul from Dallas, but worth it.

Goode Company in Houston.

Sonny Bryan's in Dallas - the original location on Inwood. Plan to eat standing up or leaning on your car. Though there are several locations in Dallas, this is nothing like a "chain". If you really want a sit-down, choose one of the other locations, but the experience won't be the same!

Well again thank y'all for all these suggestions. It sounds like a bunch of guys talking about their moms meatloaf:) you know nobody makes it as good as mom. We will be visiting some of these places if we can make them in our way and believe me we will try and make time for this. Has any of you ever had jalepeno coleslaw? It rocks and if you get the chance try it as it goes with BBQ.
Well I am here in TX already, I began to get the driving blurs, I saw the freeway go in other directions and stuff like that so I began to look for a small town that had a motel and I drove an additional 1.5 hrs befor I found one. This place is f'ing huge. I am STILL 500 miles from Dallas and I have to be at the exhibition at Cape Buffalo at least by 6.00 to mae sure all is ok there and the exhibition starts at 7.30 so if you are in the area please stop by and say hi. I'm still on AZ time right now which is only 9.30pm but here it is 11.30pm I need to drink a beer or 5 and get some food in me.
I keep seeing the signs for Rudy's though so it seems like that one will be easy to get at. On our last trip I sent a report in about life on the road with Johnny and Earl and the whole T-Wheels was born alot with the Earl is the best smelling human being story. I think I need to try an make a commitment to starting a thread as I got lots of reps for it and awesome emails etc asking for more. Well I guess this is the begining of it now I think about it. Anyway thanks again

I just finished watching a show on the Travel Channel about the best Barbeque in the nation. For Texas, the focus was all on the great barbeque in the town of Lockhart, Texas, which is roughly half way between Austin and San Antonio.

They said the population in Lockhart was 12,000, but that over 250,000 people come from out of town every year to eat the barbeque there. The Texas State Legislature has also declared Lockhart the "Barbeque Capital of Texas."

I've never eaten at any of them (but have heard the praises of Lockhart Barbeque many times), but the places they showcased were:

Smitty's Market: They have been doing barbeque since the 30's. They believe in cooking low and slow.

Kreuz Market: This was started in 1999 by some of the members of the same family that own Smitty's Market, but they went off and started their own place. They believe in a fast cooking process.

Black's Barbeque: Also doing barbeque since the 30's. I don't recall them specifically mentioning it, but I believe they also believe in a low and slow cooking process.

Hope this helps.

Fuschak's barbecue in San Marcos, Tx, right on I-35. east side. Family owned and operated for a long time. One of the best places around.

I just got off the phone with Double J who is at the exhibition in Austin visiting Johnny. Dr.DreckDonkey is playing Johnny Archer for the fun challenge match! Johnny has his hands full! Junior, tells us the finals score when you get back online! :)

They are only open for lunch Monday thru Friday 11:00am-2:30pm but if you are still in Austin next week House Park BBQ downtown on 12th street is pretty good. It's a small old school place with a lot of character too:)

Jr. lost 5-3. JA had him down 4-1 and was running out until he missed a very easy shot on the 8 ball.:shocked2: I couldn't believe it. Jr. didn't shoot nearly as well as he could and he wasn't making anything on the breaks. I think he was nervous and JA did get some nice rolls as well as play a couple of nice safeties. Earl was a hoot talking about how he would shoot all of us full of holes if we played on 5X10's. He still has a monster stroke and juicing the heck out of his rock making 5 rail shape shots. The class was nice and I really enjoyed interacting with them. I thanked Mark, Johnny and Earl for what they are doing. We need more of this to bleed life back into this game. There was a glimmer of life at the class as there was this 10 year old boy named Homer. If he sticks with it, he's got a great future in pool.

Best BBQ on the planet

Ratings? We don't need no stinking ratings.

Saltlick is great atmosphere but the sauce is a bit on the sissy side.

If you missed Sonny Bryan's and Sollees in Dallas, and Saltlick outside Austin, then your last chance for the absolute real deal by which all other barbecue is measured, its
Rudy's!

.... unless they'd like to try one of mine.

The best BBQ in my opinion is in someone's back yard. Have a bunch of folks over, a couple cooler's full of beer and that's it. My favorite thing to make is them good ol' jalapeno poppers. You hollow out a jalapeno and fill it with cream cheese, then you wrap it in bacon and stick a tooth pick through it to hold it together. Make a bowl out of tin foil and throw them suckers on the grill with a couple of steaks amongst other things and it's lights out.

If you're around Austin, possibly to the west, I'd recommend the Salt Lick. They have an all you can eat of beef, sausage, and pork ribs, with potato salad, cole slaw, beans, bread, pickles, and onions if you go with the 'family style'. Since Driftwood is a dry county, its BYOB.

Rudy's is also popular, they charge by the quarter pound for ribs, brisket, sausage, turkey, chicken.
