I had long held a grudge against reporter Dick Kay for his reporting on Johnston City,
I had concluded that his reporting was the cause for the shutdown by the FBI.

I called Mr. Kay earlier this year to ask about this piece.

What he told me made me feel regretful about the blame I placed on him.

During the short plane ride over, (I don't know why he didn't drive)
he met a man that he spoke casually with.

This man, turned out to be the FBI agent,
who waited patiently for Mr. Kay to complete his piece before they raided Jansco's.Show Bar.

I thought I'd share this story considering Jansco's and Johnston City are being inducted into the BCA HOF.

Peace.

Glad to see the Janscos being inducted. Far more important what they contributed than what they lost. Today’s Derby City Classic is Johnston city Part 2 in so many respects and that’s why the induction of Greg Sullivan to coincide with the induction of the Janscos is so fitting.

I would not bear a grudge against any pool writer if they write honestly about things they have experienced and witnessed. In the end, no business is exempt from scrutiny.

I was there, when they pulled out those Manila envelopes and had players names and cash in one spot. We had to file out the door one by one, and they asked us something about money I told em I was a $2 player, too long ago to remember. I do tho remember, RA was not there and Rempe had every penny in his pocket accounted for. Treasury dept. is who I heard was there, and many had wives or women with them, I guess to blend in.

When Fats got on the stand to plead the case for all the pool hustlers even the judge was amused. Fats was very convincing, arguing that everyone is a hustler to some extent - salesmen of all kinds, stockbrokers, real estate agents and he went on and on. By the time he was done, the judge was on board and dismissed all the charges and everyone got their money back. Only Fats could have pulled that one off!

It was a different world back then.

Only fats, only then.
