i recently got a wood to wood joint true sneaky made from a very reputable maker, went with 3/8x10 pin, had this issue you can see in the pics where, when screwed together, the cue has a slight gap no matter how hard i try and tighten it
so i sent it back and they said they would reface the shaft and then sent it back to me, well the cue is exactly the same
which i take to mean they didn't even double check it to make sure the problem was fixed when they sent it back
now i wonder if i should send it back again or just return it and have them make me another one or if it really affects playability that much?
i don't want this to get worse over the life of the cue, but it's also a pain to be sending it off and waiting for them to send it back the exact same condition as before
so is this really a big issue?

put the paper for reference, not a huge credit card width gap, but a gap nonetheless

Shaft or butt not faced off right, joint pin might be bent or the treads in the shaft aren't straight. But it's most likely a facing problem and its a quick fix, any cue repair person with a lathe will be able to help you.

probably a facing problem....... also be sure to chamfer the hole in the shaft.... sometimes that will help

If they re-faced the shaft and it didn't change anything then the butt has to be re-faced. Curious as to how the cue rolls when together as it is. The joint surfaces need to meet correctly. Of course there's a chance the cue will not roll straight once the joint faces meet 100% All things have to be in perfect alignment, pin, shaft joint, etc.

Eddie,

Send the cue back and demand a full refund from the COMPANY. This is not an individual builder.
I know who built this cue and their quality is plummeting.
Tell me this : Does the pin look like it was tossed out the window driving 50mph ?
Those burrs will destroy the threads in the shaft. I doubt the pin is epoxied into the handle.
The one I removed because it was .030" off-center came out by hand.
No names necessary. This company is committing suicide.

could it be a Meucci cue?

Just another.....guess what.....sorry I cant tell you thread. Come with the maker please. There might actually be someone else that has this same problem.

It may be an optical illusion, but it appears the shaft and butt have a slight bevel to them? Look like they tried to bevel or sand to make it flush when screwed together.

I doubt seriously a Meucci (wrong pin) but I would guess it to be a McDermott or a Viking and am leaning towards the latter. I would say the problem lies in the pin or shaft threads not installed straight or the shaft not bored straight for the threads. I'll bet when the shaft is installed on the butt it is a tight fit as the shaft is screwed on.

Even an individual cue maker is a company. This is more about a product defect.

I think the real point is that the poster does not need cue repair advice, he needs some basic business advice.

I think the above quoted advice is generally good after a failed attempt at repairing the defect.

Return it for a refund.

I have no idea who might have made it. I don't think it matters much in the context of this single issue. Although hopefully if there is a real problem in general with the maker at some point it will be made more publicly known.

That's way off. I built 3 cues lifetime and I have done better. Face on the butt is not square to the shaft. Refaced it's going to be off. Get out of this cue while you can.

thanks for the replies guys, i ended up returning it for a new one to be made
if that one has any issue whatsoever, then i guess it'll be time for a refund and time to look elsewhere for a cue
hoping this was an isolated incident, that's why i left out the name of the maker
