I just read where Jon Kucharo won this weekend's IPT qualifier held at Blackbird Billiards in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

I watched Jon play some pretty strong 9-Ball back in May of 2001 at the Joss Turning Stone Classic II where he finished fourth in a 128 player - star studded field.

It's nice to see that he is competing again!

Thanks for the link, Dana. I did not know that Bustamante won this event TWICE. He is on top of his game, even in the year 2006. Francisco Bustamante is a mighty warrior and is still hitting 'em strong! :)

Someone said he stoped playing .but now he wins a spot in the ipt ...Good to hear .I hope he does real good ..
 
He came through Appleton, WI. a while back and matched up with a local there for a few sets at around 1.5K per and won all three sets, but all sets were hill-hill. Once our local found out who he was playing he was all like "holy crap thats JON K. " I think he let that get into his head, because our guy was playing stronger, then all of a sudden he seemed spooked.

Oh well..
 
This is great news. Jon was a rising star in pool several years back, and a real pleasant young man. He went off the deep end a few years ago and completely dropped out of sight. I heard he had become an alcoholic. And now Mark Tadd is back too. Amazing what this IPT has done, resurrecting some of the long lost souls of pool.

For that I am most appreciative.
 
I have a few accustats tapes of John Kucharo playing. That guy has one heck of a break. He also shoots straight as an arrow. If he is still playing as good as he used to, his break should serve him well in 8-ball.

I have known Jon Kucharo since he was a young teenager in Davenport, Iowa. While it is true, that Jon rose quickly, he fell quicker to the effects of alcohol. I am so very happy to hear that he is back on his game. Mark Wilson was his mentor and I know that Mark has to be thrilled that Jon is back!!! Hope to see him at the DCC in 2007 for I have never lost betting on Jon!

Talk about resurrection, Dana Laidman (Hollywood Dana) was at the IPT Qualifier in Ohio 2 weeks ago!!!
 
I played Kucharo

Jon Kucharo came through my town a few years ago, he was one of the only pros where I'd heard his name but not seen his face so I didn't really know who he was. We played 1 pocket for a couple hours and broke even then we played 9-ball, we played a 7 ahead set and he gave me the 7 ball, I started out strong up 4 games then the next time I got a clear shot at a ball he was up 5 games, I think he put a 6 or a 7 on me in that set. In the course of his run his backer whispered to me "Do you know who that is your playing?" when I replied "No." he said "That's Jon Kucharo, he's ranked #15 in the world right now." I obviously recognized the name and it didn't really affect the set cause I didn't get to shoot anymore. A couple weeks after he won a pro tourney and finished high in another and finished 2nd in the world right behind Mika Immonen...

PROG8R...Was that at the Shark Club? Nice room, and friendly owner...I've given a couple of lessons in there!

I bet on jon playing efren getting the 7 playing 10 ball at the pool room i used to run. Jon beat him like 13-4 efren quit after one set

I agree with you. I watched him break at all week at Reno several years back. It was the hardest smack of a break I'd ever heard. People would actually stop what they were doing and look over at his table when they heard it. That was the same year I sat behind Danny Medina all day to watch his break, to see if I could pick up the source of his power. I never could figure it, except that he seemed to have a powerful arm, and used it like a right cross in boxing.

Yes, it was the Sharks Club. It is a nice pool room.
You give lessons there? or did, you should know John Fields. That kid could have been on the top of every bracket if he would have been challenged more.
 
I had the opportunity to see John play this past weekend at Blackbird Billiards. He's a jam up player and I am glad he won. He sent Jason Kirkwood to the B side to clench the rocking chair. Jason then beat Ronnie Wiseman to advance along with John to the IPT Tourney in Vegas.

Congrats both of you!
 
Kucharo wins another IPT qualifier

Jon Kucharo just won this week's IPT qualifier held at Shooters Billiards in Burnsville, MN.

Jon already qualified for the upcoming $2,000,000 IPT North American Open 8-Ball Championship to be held in July and now he will also play in the $3,000,000 IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship in September.

Congratulations Jon!
