Breaking news [pun intended]. Window's Open just shared this bit of news hot off the press.

Gosh, you might be right. I did not think about that. :giggle:
And so could you.
No sweat mate.

I just remember her chasing up Judd and being cheeky before.

It would be good to see him have another crack.
US Open he didn't prep that much, but showed signs of promise.

I remember after he said now he knows, he would get his own cue made by John Paris just for pool.
Then he would put in more time before a big pool event.
Hopefully this comes off and he takes it up a notch.

Assuming this is true, it's wonderful news. Judd's all class and his presence will add some spice to the event and, hopefully, get some snooker fans to tune in.

What they need is two (or more Snooker duded....Say Ronnie & Judd). Then they would push each other for bragging rights.

I believe they have a criteria for invitationals such as the worlds to which Trump would not qualify,
it would diminish credibility to provide him a spot over an accomplished UK player

open tourney's are a different story

Wonder if he is taking Fedor's spot (who.says he is banned from play in Poland).
Hate to say this, but in 2022, Fedor's ineligibility to play in many of the majors made it impossible for him to earn an automatic spot onto Team Europe at the Mosconi and he was not chosen as a wild card. I hope we're not travelling down that road again in 2023. Given the difficult road he's had to travel of late, and the classy manner in which he's dealt with it, it's hard not to root for Fedor.

This is not correct. The field is only partly invitational. I think a year ago, 64 players were assured of an invitation based on ranking. If my memory isn't failing me, and sometimes it does these days, for everyone else, it was first come first served. Actually, even if the event was an invitational from top to bottom, event producers always retain a few wild card spots (in post #18 in this thread, Bob Jewett indicates that it's eight spots) which they may assign as they please, and that's within WPA guidelines.

A number of invitations are handed out for the World Championship annually, with the top 100 in the nineball world rankings qualifying and the remaining 28 spots being either WPA or Matchroom invitees

Trump failing to qualify for snooker’s German Masters, which is scheduled to be held on the same dates as the World Pool Championship, could allow him to accept an invite for the prestigious tournament.

Agreed 100%. I don't know the intricacies of international sanctions, but perhaps things will be easier for him once his green card goes through later this year and he has U.S. permanent residence status. I think he is playing in the Derby at least.

Thanks, I didn't know the details for this year, but I'm good with this methodology for invitations.

Yes, he's in the Derby. He told me as much when we chatted at Turning Stone.

I hope Trump takes up the offer. It's great to see snooker players dabbling in 9 ball and also, as we have seen with Ultimate Pool, English 8 ball. Cue sports supporting each other can't be a bad thing. I'd go as far as giving a wild card spot to a carom and a pyramid player. The best would be more than solid at 9 ball - going deep or at least semi-deep but probably being found out at the deep end. It's a great challenge and an opportunity to promote more than one great game.
