who makes the best one???
i know some will say its personal preference
but i want to see the replies to see if there is a concensus
thanks for your replies

Personal opinion does go a long way in answering this question...

So with that said here is my opinion and my observations behind it... The technology underlying a jump cue is different than what you would likely want for a break cue... While not being mutually exclusive in some areas over all a cue that breaks well doesn't have to jump well.... Deflection plays into this I shaft that deflects is a benefit when trying to get the cuetip out of the way on a jump... For breaking you want an accurate hit on the 1ball so you are better served with a low deflection shaft.... That is if you are not using the hop stop break.

At the open this year the only pro I saw on the TV table that used a break/jump was Shawn Putnam..... Bubba is a pretty big guy so he can likely jump with anything... However he did foul on a simple open jump across table because he couldn't hit the ball hard like on a full table jump....

I opt for a dedicated jump and a dedicated break cue... I am even leaning towards the use of 2 different jump cues as a dart jump cue works best at a super low weight and a stroke jump cue works better when it is heavier and deflects more....

I like having different tools specialized to do different tasks... Driving carpentry nails with a sledge hammer will work but it is definitely not the ideal situation... Nor is using a tack hammer.......

I think Renfro is absolutely right. I have hit a lot of j/b cues and they did one or the other better. Like, I like the way it jumped but not the way it broke or vise versa. The only one I remember that did both really well was the Jerico Stinger and a few customs that I can't remember the names though.

Sledge Hammer!

Mike G calls them Anvils now, but they are the same as the Sledge Hammer and they break and jump great! I have had mine for 5yrs with no problems..., I also own one of Andy Gilberts and it is also a very good cue.

A jump break is a compromise no matter what

ok if a separate jumper and breaker is needed
what maker of each one (or list a few) would you buy??
specs??

When getting back into the game earlier this year I bought a Jerico Stinger J/B and had plans to buy a jump cue as well. I'm so happy with how the cue jumps and breaks that I haven't bothered to buy a jump cue yet. Consider the Stinger.

With Mike having a fire sale for year end on the Gullyassy Orange Crusher and Grim reaper I would tell you to begin there.... They both perform well and for the price they are hard to beat....http://www.babysproshop.com/
He has a coupon code for special pricing...

If price is no object you will want the mezz break pro with the deep impact pro shaft and a Lomax dedicated jumper...... Those are my opinions of course.....

Hard to go wrong with Mike G's stuff, he makes good cues.

I had Andy make me a break cue and I am using one of Steve's jumpers, good combination that works well for me. I know it is a little more expense to get one of each but when you play as bad as I do you need all the help you can get.

Jump / Break Cue

I just have a J&J Jump Break cue, but it works for me. For $65, you can hardly go wrong with them. I have 2 shafts for mine, and I am getting ready to put a leather tip on one of the shafts to accomodate the new BCA rules where phenolic break tips are not allowed. That way, I will have one shaft with leather, and the other with phenolic tip.

Hard to tell what is the best.
Cues from the same maker will perform differently.
Buying blind without trying is a gamble.
For instance Mezz Deep Impact Pro R shaft to me is junk.
However, Mezz Air Drive jump cue is simply amazing.
Yet, while most people that tried it thought it was great, one person told me he didn't like his and sold it.
You just never know.

steve lomax, stevel on here. i own his jump cue and have shot with his cues. if i had the cash he'd be making my break cue today no doubt.

i bought a mace and an andy gilbert with plans to sell one. i sold the gilbert (and didnt even take a loss). they were both so good, i just preferred the way the mace jumped slightly better.

Awhile back i posted a thread on dedicated breakers and jumpers VS JB cues and just as I expected the replies were subjective BUT it did summarize into more people opting for dedicated jumpers and breakers.

During than I was using a Samsara JB, great breakers those things are and it came with Extra dart handle for jumping. However the jump for that cue just didn't do it for me, a few others tried and most couldn't dart jump well with that cue.

I have since moved on to try different breakers. I've already ordered a Lomax Jump(haven't tried it yet and it's 4000km away from me now..) and it came highly recommended. Have been using my buddy's Mezz Air Jump and they're great dedicated jumpers. As for breaker I've settled on a Mezz Deep Impact Pro with H shaft, monster breaker!! Serious crazy breaker. BK2 just can't compare if you're a power breaker but you need to "press/control" your CB when breaking with this cue with strength otherwise you'll send the CB flying.

Gulyassy and Lomax

You have to have both.

I have Gulyassy's Orange Crusher. I comes in several weights. I ordered the extra weights so I could try them out. Mike is a great guy and makes a great cue.

I have a Steve Lomax jump cue and it is amazing. Best jump cue I ever owned. Steve is another great guy, you cant't go wrong with his jump cue, simply the best, Barney

The Anvil is 10 steps above the Sledgehammer. The new shaft taper is perfect, it is coated with shaft Freeze, the FT2 is unbreakable, Samsara tips make it legal, The finish is space age and the straightness is unmatched. There are no designated jump cues that jump better and they are on sale right now starting $275.00.

Jump Break cues

I've tried a lot of different J/B cues over the years and I thought I had a pretty good one in my trusty Hurricane J/B cue until I tried an Omega J/B cue at this years US Open. I've never used a jump cue or jump break cue that jumped balls so easily. It breaks very well also, but the jumping advantage made the cue a no brainer for the price. Check out an Omega J/B cue when you get a chance from Michael Hoang at Omega Billiards and I want to point out that I have nothing to do with his business.
