Just a short experience at the apa match to share.

Well, every league will operate a bit differently, I suppose. But the room would have to be shopping mall sized to not be able to take a minute to go grab someone. As I'm just a hick out in the sticks, I may not be aware of such places...:p

One of the places we play is a bowling alley/sportsbar/entertainment complex. It holds seventeen 9-foot tables, so it's pretty good sized. (They used to play indoor golf in this building.) This doesn't account for the outdoor smoking area at the far end of the building. If I need a coach, and the guy isn't around, I go get him. If it's gonna take more than a minute or two, then I'll blast away on my own.

I would have him ask (or have you ask/suggest for him) that at least one person that is capable of coaching be in the neighborhood while he's playing.

But that's just me. Maybe he needs to be on a different team next session.

you say the captain was using "effective safety play" , it is both permissible and SMART .

So if I called time out for my team mate and said out loud with a big smile on my face looking at you and tell him to do this and your opponent doesn't have the skill to execute that shot (while smiling and looking at you. And then you try what ever you try and miss And I tell him see I told you he couldn't do that. Would you think to yourself that dam that was an effective safety play? Or would you be thinking that I am a ass hole . Yeah I think this effective safety play does not apply to this situation.

Are you kidding it took me 1 year to get him to get on that team. for 4 years he has been complaining about this. So only way he will change is if I get a team together. That isn't happening lol. Thanks for the convo and you also take care and make sure you keep your powder dry out their in the sticks ;)

as another poster already pointed out , it's all in the wording . Leaving the ball in a hard-to -hit location is "effective safety play" , and it might be appropriate to say "the ball will be hard to hit here".
Saying "he won't be able to hit it here" may seem more personal , but it's just reflecting the coach's thought process , perhaps including his observed opinion of the play that night . Of course , it may also reflect the coach's level of couth - he just might not know any better !
 
I like this post walrus_3d :thumbup:...especially the highlighted paragraph. If more players thought (and acted) this way (as opposed to deliberately trying to be "mean-spirited" (read: jackass), league players would have a lot more fun. The purpose of a safety is potential ball in hand. How you describe that to a player is up to you. It is true that an LO can suspend, or kick out of the league, any member that is a troublemaker...which can be interpreted many ways.

I was writing descriptive writing to the best of my ability. Sorry if it's not descriptive enough to let you know that in person he was being an asshole.
 
If your uncle's team is that laid back, and everyone was gone elsewhere, then this may have simply been the normal way that they play their leagues.

I have been in situations where the opposing team talks to me/my team mate, etc during a time out...we do it all the time..."just put it here...you know he can't hit it". However, that is in fun...sometimes I/my team has even offered help to the other team on how to play a defensive shot on me/one of my teammates...but again, that is all in fun.

Never at a tourny, and never in anger or a "sharking" manner. It just sounds like the guy was trying to intimidate/shark your uncle. Not necessarily a foul, but certainly worth writing up on a sportsmanship complaint...just means they won't get the "nice guys" award.

Yeah, I am new to this forum so I thought I would share cool little real life stories as I get to know the people here. It is not a concern only sharing some stories with a little feed back. Thanks again for talking with me :)

Everyone on my uncles team is very laid back. But at the same time situations often come up where you need the support and it isn't their. Or you need to be backed up because their is 6 people on the opposite team saying they seen other wise. So it's you against the whole team lol.. I prefer a more casual team but sometimes it's nice to have people totally committed to a team. You know the ones that march together in to the pool room with all matching shirts and have some chant before they start hahaha :) My uncle lost the match. He was a little ticked off because this guy (captain) has done this before and does it on a regular bases.

well I can tell you, unless otherwise wrote in that specific APA Franchise LO's By-Laws, it is the players call on what was a foul , unless a referee or agreed upon party is asked to watch the hit. My dad and I owned a franchise in Florida for some time.
 
I honestly don't see the problem here. The opponents plans to leave a 3 rail kick shot and announces it. He still needs to pull it off and if successfull he already pointed out the shot your dad needed.

The APA rules do have something on sportsmanship. I think if you feel that it was violated you can open a complaint with APA over what happened. However, for what you described I wouldn't waste my time

Thank you :smile: I am getting a keith josey sneaky pete for christmas because I been good lol I will post you the pictures of me and the cue after christmas. I don't know to many people that love pool like me so I will share with you my present :).
