Just got my cue back from McDermott :)

All I know is I want the one with a rose on it and a skull cue from Schon.
There is a skull and crossbones Viking cue on Ebay right now. I always liked that one too, I would grab one at a bargain price. Of course, it's nothing next to the Schön.

Any vintage of these? I may be mistaking McD rose cue with Meucci rose cue.
Mcdermott G435 Rose Cue ...

Yea those Schon skull cues were great. If I had the ends to do it, I would try to get all of them.

That’s the only McD I have ever had after the D series. IMO McD’s were pretty much toast after the D series. C & D were the best 2 series I thought A’s weren’t as good
I feel much the same way. The A's are definitely very collectible, but it seems McD wasn't quite what they could be yet. C and D is where it's at for McD. Though, let's not neglect the B series, which were definitely better than the A, maybe approaching the quality of C and D.

I have a super strong McD which of course I don’t have pics of. Yet!

Mike Massey gave it to me as a gift about 12 years ago. McD made it special for him, it’s super long. I’ll get pics and specs and put it here. Need a bit of time.

I’m not keen on those long bumpers they started using (I think right after the D series)

One thing I have noticed is the old McD’s seem to play better now than 40 years ago. A good friend of mine who’s well over 700 said the same thing.

Best
Fatboy <——-likes rose cues more and more

Yes I agree 100% the B’s were very good. Possibly good as C’s and D’s. The A’s are collectible now for sure

I need friends like you got! LOL!

I actually think the old McD bumpers had something to do with how the cue hit. Seriously I think that. Of course, I could be wrong.

I was amazed Mike gave me that cue. I’ll have it forever, sorry I don’t have a pic right now. When I’m able I’ll get pics and post them here.

I love how McD’s play. They are a top 10% of all cues I’ve played with good. D series not anything after.

I have more A, B, and C series cues but I can't find the pics. Somehow I got disorganized when I changed PCs a few years ago. I am replacing this one by October, building another. I will have to be more organized with my cue files.

Some of my stuff is in cloud storage, I will go check there.

If/when I find the other McD pics I will post some. Right now the cues are in storage, can't really get them out yet. Need to make room in my office.

This is 4/5 McD’s I own. The 19 & 23 are normal D series. I’d like a couple more D series someday. And a C series as well, I have owned loads of C & D series over the years.

The 26 has points instead of the bow ties(my bow tie was stolen) , the far left cue is an old forearm on a (after D series) butt. They were both given to me. One-off McD’s are kinda cool.
I have a D19 just like that, its my daily player. When I had McD refinish it I had them rewrap it with white and green speckled linen. In fact I was just at McD this very morning ordering a new shaft for it.

Got my favorite shooter back from refurbishment and it looks like new from when I first bought it from them in 1985. It is a C-14 from the 1980-1984 catalog.

The darker shaft is the original and I had them cut it down from a 14mm to a 13mm and I got a new 13mm shaft made too. Can't wait to try it out.
Beauty.
Did they replace ferrule on original shaft?
And do you know what ferrule material on new shaft?
Great cue, enjoy.

My main player is a C13 had it since they came out. Ordered to my specs from Marilyn(IIRC) McDermott. It's been rewrapped 4 times and I have 6 different shafts for it. 2 original 1 aftermarket a Defy , a G2 ,and a I2 which I use the most. Here are 2 closet queens. And 2 cases showing the all to common leather shrinkage.

I’m in complete agreement, after the D’s, McDermotts weren’t quite the same cue, with one exception. I think their Revival Series, made in 1995, are also great cues. Might just be the look but I’ve played with one for 30 years and it is a very good cue. No doubt in my mind, that up to and through the D series, McDermott made one of the better, maple shaft, cues. I have several D’s and one C. Those cues, with their original maple shafts, play as well as any maple shaft cue I have ever played.

In response to the OP, I no longer own the K-Mart or Allied Sporting Goods cue that I first purchased but I still own the first real cue I ever owned. It is the McDermott RS-1.
