Just returned from watching Bonus Ball in Vegas

I just returned from a quick trip to Vegas to check out the opening weekend of Bonus Ball and I can honestly say that everything there is simply AWESOME!

I saw the arena under construction, and was introduced to the game, during two previous visits last year, but there was no way to really get a vision of the finished product without checking it out once completed. Now that I have, I'm convinced for sure; the WPBL is on the right track!

Anyone who has questions or doubts about anything concerning Bonus Ball and the WPBL should buy a plane ticket and go check it out for themselves. There's no way you would not be impressed beyond your wildest imaginations.

i'll be there in a week, i was there last year and it was a empty room, i have pics, so i'm very excited to see the fruits of all the hard work.

sure there are problems, what new biz dont have them? i aint see one yet that didn't. unless you buy a franchise. but a start-up always has problems. I expect them to have 2-3 years of bugs to work out, most in the first year but after that, there will still be small bugs.

glad you had fun,

best

The show was great! The format is purely genious. Every game meaning something is important in a game like pool. I love the extra point for winning in regulation time. The shoot-out is perfect for ending a match so you don't have any long boring safety matches. The shoot-out itself makes it exciting, edge of your seat drama. Put this together with a game that plays as good as Bonus Ball, Chiborak looks like a pure genious at this point!

That's encouraging to hear! I was in Veags 2 weeks ago for a furniture show, I just missed kick-off. I'd love to sweat a match in that beautiful venue.

I might add that I have been at several Mosconi Cups and the screaming crowd is fun but seriously, Bonus Ball makes these players look amazing. The three pocket concept forces them to make shots that you don't see in pro nine ball. This game makes nine ball look elementary. Don't listen to some of the crap you read on here. Take a good hard look at this game. Despite the train wreck that we see everytime Nathan opens his mouth or how inept of a businessman Chiborak seems to be...this was the best pool viewing experience I have ever seen. I can't wait to see the New York Pride vs Atlanta game, despite knowing the outcome. I heard Earl was at his very best!

Let's hope that Chiborak can endure the next three to five years of massive losses because if he can, this will definitely be the future of pool. We don't really want to remember the past! Professional players putting on a show and fans having something to cheer about! I think this will be exciting. Even if he does go broke, I hope someone continues in his foot steps.

We saw the stream and it was anything but awesome.

Mr. Long

..Thanks for your positive report.....this kinda confirms Nathan's view on his thread that it was a success, (excluding the video stream)......I hope it is successful and the Pros have a livelihood for many years to come.....

Then by that logic the OP must be his father? And yeah, Bonus Ball has a lot of support. I mean just look at how many cousin's Chiborak has!

kittykat,

It seems that you was there in person and watched the show live; is that correct? If so, did you meet Nathan, Dave, Larry, or any of the players and talk to them about Bonus Ball face-to-face? If not, you should have. They are all very open, friendly and approachable. They are also very passionate about Bonus Ball, and willing to take the time to show anyone and everyone exactly what they are trying to accomplish there. No train wrecks. No ineptitude. Just pure professionalism.

Thanks for the report Roger. I know I'm pulling for them.

I was very impressed by the arena and can tell that attending a bonus ball match will be fun. I will be in Vegas for all ten days of the BCAPL event at the Rio and I'll make sure to attend at least one bonus ball match.

Glad to hear you had a positive experience, Roger.

Roger,

There were reports that the players were still confused about the rules. Did you notice that during your trip? How about the very small pockets causing many missed shots? I'd be interested in your professional opinion. Thank you in advance.

Ehh... Small pockets don't result in missed shots. Off center shots into small pockets result in missed shots.

Obviously, tighter pockets change your game from a strategy and execution standpoint but whatever the pocket size is, well... It just is for both players so no advantage or disadvantage to either player.

Lots of sports have variables that make it more difficult at times, especially outdoor sports and there may be true advantages like in golf where morning starts can have soft greens and low winds versus afternoon starts on the same day in the same tournament with hard greens and higher winds but with pool the conditions are the same for all players.

Tight pockets my cause more cautious play but in the end, someone has to get out. Just a change in strategy and execution and sometimes fun to watch.

Oh yeah.... To my knowledge, tough pockets haven't killed snooker

The announcers said 3 7/8 many times. I believe it from the video shots that were clear at times.
OK, if that is the case, then here we go...

Snooker pocket is 3 1/2 inches and balls are 2 1/8 inches, that leaves 1 3/8 inches of room

The American pool ball is 2 1/2 inches, add 1 3/8 inches and you get 3 7/8 inches... Forget about snooker's 6' x 12' tables, the extremely difficult pocket cut and the directional cloth.... Those pockets are not terribly tough in the global view of things.
