Yes his execution is very nice. I mean absolutely no disrespect to him. It's just that in my eyes distinctive ring work is what really makes certain cues stand out. Barenbruggie, Haley and Omega are just a few. When I see another maker use that style of rings is confuses my eye. Much like a Porsche body kit on a VW.

Anywho this thread is about Eric and Wes's beautifully cues. I'm sorry I made a comment that would cause this thread to go off on a tangent and take away from them.

......in the Hunter cues. I think most would say "old school" and not take any offence to the use of the design. Are you also put off by the Black Boar scallop in the Crisp cues? The influence is unmistakeably present. These cues are beautiful and stand on their own merit.

It's koa. I have very little of it in this quality. My dad actually went to Hawaii & hunted a mill down that exclusively cut koa. He then picked through & got them funkiest stuff the guy would sell. Otherwise, the really good stuff is nearly impossible to get.

As for HC's rings, I like them. When I first seen them I could imagine how they might cause mixed reactions. But I like them.

As for BB scallops, not influenced by BB in any way. His are inlaid, mine are true spliced butterflies. I don't see them looking anything much alike besides the vague general shape of a butterfly. I have used scallops for a long time in sleeves & between points in forearms, but was always afraid of putting them in the handle. I had tried a couple times & failed, but this last prototype I made several months ago seemed to be the right technique. So now i'll be using them a lot. It's a lot of work & very tricky keeping them from fraying & feathering because they thin out into infinity at the tips, unlike inlays. But it's well worth it. The goal was to be different in a world where nothing is new. I understand it would not be so difficult to acheive with inlay equipment, but doing true splice is another story. The purpose is to frame the handle as if it were a painting.

Funny you say that. I have heard almost everything being related to wood in my shop, but never a Van Gogh painting :) Some people can look at wood grain & pick out shapes or scenes that are obvious once pointed out but otherwise go unnoticed. That's the beauty of wood. It'll paint itsself into a picture if you leave it alone.

Sure is :) It's much more beautiful in person. The pics only show one of the three dimensions of figure, so imagine 3x as much figure as you can see in the pic. You should come up this weekend & pick it up. Randyg is at the room giving his class this weekend, interesting fellow that guy. Seems like a likeable fellow. Anyway, come up & get your cue. Or else i'm gonna ship it out :) I have had a few PMs from guys wanting it already.

So many cues and not enough money to go around. If I didn't have a cue pending at SBE I would be all over these. Great job Mr. Crisp - nice touch on the wrapless cues BTW.
