Just what song does it for you in the poolroom?

For good listening i like Free Bird or anything along those lines.
To get pumped up Kickstart my Heart by Motley Crue.
Honorable mention to the hometown boys Slipknot, surfacing or heretic song.

For something fun to do my home league bar has a online jukebox and i will play a song by a band called Dope called Die MF'er Die.

The look on peoples faces is priceless.

I always liked that song.

My boyfriend likes to hear Barry White when he's hitting 'em. He actually has that ring tone by Barry White on his cell phone, "Can't Get Enough of You, Babe." Go figure! :o

A road agent I used to know, who has since passed away, used to travel cross-country on a regular basis, and his all-time favorite song to hear when he was in action was "Still the Same" by Bob Seger. When that song came on, I think his game elevated by two balls. LOL!

You always won, every time you placed a bet
You're still damn good, no one's gotten to you yet
Every time they were sure they had you caught
You were quicker than they thought
You'd just turn your back and walk
You always said, the cards would never do you wrong
The trick you said was never play the game too long
A gambler's share, the only risk that you would take
The only loss you could forsake
The only bluff you couldn't fake

And you're still the same
I caught up with you yesterday
Moving game to game
No one standing in your way
Turning on the charm
Long enough to get you by
You're still the same
You still aim high

There you stood, everybody watched you play
I just turned and walked away
I had nothing left to say

'cause you're still the same
You're still the same
Moving game to game
Some thlngs never change
You're still the same

Click my "MySpace" link below to hear the actual song, if you so desire! :grin-square:

This might be strange to most, but...

"Black Water" - Doobie Brothers

Something about the rhythem just gets me really focused.

nothing strange about that at all...love that song. I have a friend that will play that and Patience by GnR.

I'm not a big country fan, but like songs by Dwight Yoakum (which is really better classified as Rockabilly), and like Fishin' in the Dark by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band...???? Like I said, I like a WIDE variety, and really like some odd songs :p

poll

We should have a poll for this item to get a real top 5 for this topic! Problem would be figuring out which to put into the poll :)

"Goodbye Sober Day" - Mr. Bungle
"Thursday" - Morphine
"Dr. Rock" - Ween
"Lazy Eye" - Silversun Pickups
"Galvanize" - Chemical Bros
"It's a Wonderful Lie" - Arcwelder

unfortunatley you'll have songs from pool movies that'll win....I mean, Werewolves of London might be a good song, but really, would it get you pumped up for pool if it weren't in the movie?? Movies have done some strange things to music....I hear Foxy Lady and immediately picture Garth (Dana Carvey) in Stan Makita's Donuts doing his little flannel tied around the waist dance (also picture that movie when it comes to Bohemian Rhapsody). Tuesdays Gone is on, and I think of Happy losing his dad, "after the funeral...". I guess I've just watched too many movies (and ones I liked at the time), too many times. Other movies that jump into the head when I hear a song (no need to mention each song with the music) are - Forrest Gump (GREAT music), Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Zep baby), the Breakfast Club, and MANY MANY others.

Sorry for rambling, but I think a couple of movies might have an influence on what is considered GREAT pool songs....

Got to love Seger he has alot of songs that pump me up while playing pool ...

G-N-R Lies I could listen to all night long ... love that album really anything with Slash and Axel...

But when I am in a tournament and Eye of the Tiger comes on or Metallica's Enter Sandman those songs really fire me up ... Just something about the beat and thump of the songs are prefect for pocketing balls and the lyrics are right on also ... I know it sounds crazy but the beat of Enter Sandman is perfect for me and the lyrics are awesome ... I imagine I'm the Sandman and I'm coming for my opponent to escort them to the Never never land (The losers side) and that they better fear me ... Sounds crazy but it works for me...

Lyrics to Enter Sandman...

Say your prayers little one
Dont forget, my son
To include everyone

Tuck you in, warm within
Keep you free from sin
Till the sandman he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Somethings wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they arent of snow white

Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragons fire
And of things that will bite

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray the lord my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
Pray the lord my soul to take

Hush little baby, dont say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
Its just the beast under your bed,
In your closet, in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Were off to never never land

Fuel by Metallica
Breaking Benjamin
Thunderstruck AC/DC
Big Girls Dont Cry- Fergie
Akon
Hinder- good to practice to
Kill Switch Engage- when you're pissed off
Usher- when you're in dead stroke for the ladies

You and me both, brother.....I'm old school too....

....The click of the balls...the quiet scraping sound of chalk going across a tip...the sound of stay-awake coffee being poured...the quiet sound of slow fans whirring overhead on a hot afternoon...maybe the ballgame on the tv (not too loud)...old time woofing & stories being told...and always the sound of the front door opening - is it a regular walking in? - a roadman maybe? - or, hopefully, a fish...:).....THIS is the music of an old school pool hall, and what beautiful music it is.

- Ghost

a pool hall that looks something like this...

I hear ya!
Let me close my eyes and wander back to the most self-gratifying times of my life........

Back... back........Ok, I'm back in the old 211 Club at 2nd and Union... early 80's..... I close my eyes

I hear the sound of a someone playing straight pool on the 5 X 10.. I hear them draw whitey and the short thump as the ball lands in the leather drop pockets... such a distinctive sound

I hear them playing on the main 9 footer... Gold Crown with ball return.. I hear the ball being made and making it's way thru the return rails and finally dropping at the foot of the table... the sound of it being dropped onto other balls

I hear one pocket being played and the sounds of a 6 ball run being picked up and being forced into their side at the foot of the table... tight.. the sound of them cramming the balls into their row

I hear the sound of 2 thumps on the floor from a opponents cuestick as they commend the shot that they just witnessed on the 3 cushion billiard table

I hear the sound of 3 cushions billiards.. the sound of them hitting the 1st ball thick with high left and hearing each of the 4 rails it hits, as it travels around the table and then lightly taps the 2nd ball at the end of it's journey

I hear the sound of money going into the coffee machine and hear the cup fall down and hit it coffee being sprayed into the cup.. I hear the lid fall as they take it out of the machine

I hear the explosive break of a 9 ball rack, the cueball dropping back down of the table, I hear the light sound of the cueball kissing the rack on a one pocket break, the sound of the breakout ball hitting the pack in straight pool

I hear the sound of a rack of balls being brought up the counter and being placed on the pile of other racks of balls, I hear the ball machine whirring away cleaning balls

I hear the woofing and after awhile, apparently a successful negotiation, as I hear the unzipping of a case, the call of "heads" and the coin landing on the table, the 9 balls being placed in the wooden rack and pressed tightly against the balls, the rack being blindly thown onto the hook on the side of the table. I can tell this is a big money game, I hear the shuffling of people finding seats close to the action. I can hear and feel the change in the room, the whole room as become even quieter. I can hear each player and identify them by the way they chalk their cue, all you hear is the chalk, the sound of a ball being hit, the sound of it in the pocket, the walking to the next position

and the most beautiful sound of all.... is....

that is all of the sounds I hear.

I hear no jukebox, I don't hear a full rack of balls being dumped on the table, I hear no whistling, no drunken bangers yelling, no sticks being chalked and then banged on the side of the table, no "Watch this" and hear the stupid 8 ball being placed on top of the rack and hear it being dropped into place after a quick push of the rack

My favorite "music" in the pool room was as described above... I can close my eyes anywhere and hear that music....

It brings a smile to my face and a feeling of satisfaction and peacefulness washes over my body. It makes me long for those days again and wish I would have recorded it.

It's my No. 1 album of all time

Cheers!

A greenie to you Cali red...I hate playing in bars with loud jukes and loud drunks.

Local bar here...the 16th. 2:00 in the afternoon. Wife & I wanted to play some quiet 8 ball. Didn't happen. 3 drunks broads screaming with laughter over their bawdy jokes, not 10' from us. Just the thing to help you concentrate when you're down on a shot...the loud juke playing "balls to the wall"...people screaming along with the lyrics. ARRGH! We left the place. Probably because it was a government holiday...the place is usally pretty quiet on early afternoons.
