Kamui Chalk has "Bubbles" problem?

First of all, who "freezes" their chalk? Must be a Kamui chalk "Cult" thing? LOL

Second, at 30 bucks a pop, their shouldn't be "ANY" problems. If it were an automobile, it would be a massive safety recall...oopps. these cutting edge mad chalk scientist made a major mistake.

You don't see Tweeten hand'n out such a nonsenscal press release.
In the end, Kamui's marketing machine will overcome this. And they will soon be charging 35 bucks a pop to cover the corporate cost of this FUBAR. And the Kamui "lap dog's" will lap it up.....probably help business.

Dear valued customers,
We thank you for your trust and support in the Kamui Brand, which is the basis of our passion to pursue a continuous improvement of our products.
We have recently been aware of a potential problem our customers might encounter with ourchalks 0.98 released on July 22nd 2011, and 1.21, released on March 30th 2012. Indeed, we have found that the hardness of the chalk deteriorates when it is frozen and then defrosted.
The cause for this inconvenience is the small bubbles in the chalk shrink in size when frozen, and expand when defrosted. This process compromises the bonds of the chalk as a solid material.
The amended version, we will now release, does not contain bubbles. Tested on May 19th, we confirmed the improved hardness of the chalk.
The current version of the chalk will not experience any problem UNLESS FROZEN.
However, as our products are being distributed internationally, they may be used in cold climates. We cannot guarantee that our customers will be satisfied with our products and itis our duty to prevent them from any potential disappointment.
Due to the different reasons raised above, we have decided to take the following actions:
1. The name of our chalk line will be changed to:
- Kamui Chalk 0.98  Kamui Chalk 0.98 α (Alpha)
- Kamui Chalk 1.21  Kamui Chalk 1.21 α (Alpha)
2. The color of the package will be changed from silver to white in order to prevent any mis-purchase for the current version.
3. We will start making the new version immediately and replace the current versions, which have not already been opened, with a new one. This process will be realized through the help of our authorized distributors.
We sincerely apologize for not being able to foresee this potential problem, but also for the inconvenience we may cause you. Our priority will always remain the satisfaction of our customers and we want to ensure our products with reliability and fulfillment.
We thank you for your understanding and, appreciate your cooperation.
Sincerely yours,
Masato Hiraoka
Managing Director

I havent been following much about the Kamui chalk as it is not my cup of tea... but why should you feel the need to freeze it? Im hoping this is more about it freezing somehow in the shipping process and not customers actually freezing it.

I would guess that people did not intentionally freeze the chalk, but perhaps left it in a vehicle in a cold climate for example. Come to think of it I have some masters chalk in my car that I took out of my case for whatever reason.

My guess, too. It appears that is what Kamui is alluding to by their reference of '...they may be used in cold climates'.

I had a pretty serious problem with Bubbles as well. So now I'm going out with her sister.

Some people do keep chalk in a freezer to keep if from absorbing moisture.

As Grady Mathews might have said...

I have yet to be afflicted with that particular disorder.

They will soon offer "Kamui Elite Omega" for $75. It will not have air bubbles. It is also guaranteed not to melt in temperatures under 80 degrees, and is completely silent. Quantities are extremely limited.

Freezer storage is probably not a good idea.
Every time you open the freezer door some amount of condensation is going to collect on every item in your freezer including your $30 cube of chalk. Even if you only opened your freezer once to take the chalk out, condensation would form/collect at that time. It doesn't appear that the original bags are vacuum sealed, so the existing moisture in the bag would condense on the cube of chalk. I have to think this is not how the chalk becomes frozen I'm most instances. Exposure to cold weather is most likely the common culprit. Seems like a big mistake that Kamui didn't foresee that the chalk would be exposed to extreme temperatures cold and hot. I wonder if it melts if left in a hot car in the sun.
So now if you have an unopened cube you will have to pay to return it for an exchange and trust that your original seller will do the exchange. You will probably need a reciept too. The shipping companies won't mind this, but the original sellers will have to eat the cost of shipping the exchange chalk too. I can't see Kamui reimbursing buyers and sellers for the shipping charges incured with exchanges. I bet they are glad they charged so much for each cube now. I have to assume they left room/money to afford all the exchanges. I will predict that the a (Alpha) version won't be liked as much as the first to runs. I'm calling it now.
