I'm sorry if this had came up before, I'm not a thread starter, I rarely start one, but today I am going to install a kamui tip for the first time ever and not sure which one to install, and its a little costy to install the wrong one.

How can I determine which tip is for me, i've heard that Kamui soft is equal to other tips that comes in Medium, Don't know if that true or not.

My playing tips are either Moori medium, or Lepro, so with this given information, which Kamui would be best for me? is it the Black Soft, or the Black super soft? Please help me out, I'm leaving home in two to three hours to install that tip and give it a try.

thanks in advance.

I think based on what your playing tips are go with the Black Soft.

A side note asbani with your new Kamui tip it off with blue diamond chalk. I use a soft brown love it. Skip

I just had a Kumai SS put on a Schon...and I use Blue Diamond...I like the combination...

As a side note...if you haven't tried pooldawg8's milk dud tip, there worth a shot for the $3. I personally have them on one of my shafts for almost all my cues (including my Zinzola) because I like the way they play...Just adding this as a less "pricey" option...

Thanks for fast replies guys, I think I will try the Black Soft, but let me ask you guys, do you really think a chalk could play a huge different, I see that two of you recommended Blue diamond chalk, I never thought a color of chalk can make different, specially that they are all made by Tweeten, green or blue, master or diamond, does it matter?

@JAMSGOLF , About the milk dud tip, will you able to identify this tip by looking at one? I have a bunch of tips in my CASE that someone gave to me and said it's a Milk DUD, but I don't think it's the real deal, will you able to know if I uploaded a photo for you to see ? Let me know. thanks

This is a great question. I'm glad you got a good answer. Problem is, it may or may not be your favorite tip out of the ones they produce.

I think this is a great question for the kamui rep to be answering myself, ie, how can I find my favorite tip out of the 4? you make without breaking the bank. And if he can't provide a reasonable answer, maybe one should go elsewhere.

I have tried the Black Soft Kamui tip and like it but I will be trying the Black Super Soft next time just to know what I am missing. Many people claim they like the Super Soft Kamui tip better, although I have no complaints about the Soft Kamui (BLACK)

I use the Blue Diamond Chalk when I play in tournaments and I use the Snooker style Leather Pouch to hold the chalk but only during tournaments. It is just a ritual thing. I'm not sure if the Blue Diamond Chalk is "better" or not. In my way of thinking, it is what JoeyA do. LOL

I know quite a few people like one color over another, but at least as far as playability is concerned (at least with master) the only difference is the color of the pigment. No difference in performance.

I sent a PM to answer your question about the tips you have (as best I could answer)...

With regards to your "chalk question"...I just started using Blue Diamond and prefer it over the light green Masters I had been using. The Diamond seems to be a little more "pasty" than the Masters which seemed "grittier". Basically, it seems to stay on my tips better and I don't have to chalk after every shot...I still pretty much do out of habit, but I know I'm not applying as much each time I chalk the tip (I'm just scraping the chalk over the tip as a habit/pre-shot-routine thing).

There are numerous threads and even more opinions as to which type of chalk to use...best bet like most people end up telling everyone...try as many different kinds of equipment you can to see what the best "combination" of chalk/tip/shaft/cue/girlfriend works best for you (thought I'd throw that last one in there to see if anyone was really reading it...).

There is a difference in the brown verses the black, the black will not vary in the change in humidity where the brown will. Kamui states this on their web site. If you play where the humidity stays the same you will not feel the difference in the playability, but here in Texas it changes every hour.

thanks JoeyA, and everybody else too, for the information and the help, I really appreciate it.

I installed Kamui Black Soft, and went to the poolhall, played 1pocket, then 9ball, then 8ball, and I don't know what is it exactly, but the hit was really different to me, or maybe it is just in my mind, but I wasn't feeling it, at all, except for the last set where I played 8ball, I think that i just played better there, started to feel my cueball better, I just don't know...

but at first, I was just not there today... anyways probably I need more time to adjust for the feel and the type of hit, Oh and I miscued two times in the second set of 9ball :( probably because of the shape which I didn't like, I will fix that tomorrow, the tip shape was really round, and I didn't ask the guy to change that because when I noticed it, he already done and removed it from the machine and I felt that "well okay let me try it like that"

but its really too round for my taste, ill fix it tomorrow and see if I play better and not miscue.

well, again thank you all.

iI understand that the black Kamui ss is very similar to Moori med.when they first came out.
As far as the milk duds they are already chalked. To me they are just a gimmick tip. A tip that is cheap and they tried to make it better by soaking it in milk and adding chalk, but cheap is cheap.
You usually get what you pay for.Not always but usually.

Blue Diamond is a brand, regardless of the color (okay, they make it only in blue anyway;))
But again, that's not that you should pay attention to the color of your chalk. I would recommend Raymond Ceulemans World Legend chalk, made by Tweeten for Longoni company, it's very good but I don't know whether you have it available there.

I used to only use Kamui Medium (black or brown). I recently switched to Kamui Black Soft and absolutely love it. I'm going to have a Kamui Black Super Soft installed shortly on my other Edge Hybrid.
