Kansas city

Where is the best places to play in kansas city area, any good diamonds?
Any action?
Shooters in Olathe Ks. Dan Tull is the owner there and one of the best promoters of pool out there. There is 2 9 ft diamond tables there. 5 Diamond bar tables! 11 Gold Crowns and about 20 Valley bar tables! I will be there this Thursday thru Sunday afternoon. This place is about 30 from downtown KC. Take 35 South to Old Hwy 56 and it is about 1.5 miles down on the left byt the 7-11! Great action in there also. I am in the process of moving my shop there now!

Just do what no one else has done in 20 years - walk in and announce "Where is David Matlock - I want him on the bar table"

Glad to hear.................

Hi there Doug,

Good to see your hooking up with Shooters. Great place to be as a player and a great place for a great cue maker.

Good Luck Geno

PS And an awful lot of nice people there also. You'll fit in nicely.

Doug,
Great to hear you are finally making the move. Been awhile in the making and I hope its a profitable one for you. I know I have some cue work for you to do and will start telling everyone they need to go to Shooters to have their cue work done by you.
Duane

Eric,

you are right....its on the right, not left. Doug needs to lay off the sauce...:). Just kidding Doug. We all at Shooters are happy you are moving in! I'll be seeing you several times a week...:).

Lol

He plays pretty sporty on a big table too, I watched him run 9 racks of 9 ball on a big table in a 7 person ring game for $10 a man.

Shooters is probably you best bet to get some action on the big track. There are some players that will match in 9-ball, 10-ball, or 1-pocket. Side Pockets, (10 minutes north of downtown) has a nice 9' diamond table, gold crowns, and bar tables. The Brass Rail (15 minutes NE of downtown) has 6 gold crowns and several bar tables might have some small action. They run bar table tournaments every night of the week except Fri and Sat.

Shhhhhhhhh - David is getting old and can't see that far anymore :grin-square:

James - lots of action for you to match up on the big table as well. The Midwest is more of a bar table environment but David, Mike Banks Jr are willing to matchup on a big table as well. Danny Harriman can also suit your needs.

If you wanted to match up a game with Justin and it was high enough to make the trip worthwhile, we would take a drive over as well.

Hopefully Doug is selling his castle here by St. Louis for a bigger castle in Olathe so we can all have a place to stay FOR FREE.

yes that sounds truly delightful, Im sure we might be able to find a couple more people from the area that play better than me too.

I was just inquiring where to play as I was visiting the area.....thanks

If you just want to play (fun or small action), it really depends on where you are staying. If you are in KCKS/Overland Park/Leawood area, then Shooters is the best room that is close by. If you are north of the river, then Side Pockets North is the place to be. If you are in KCMO/Lees Summit/Raymore, tehn Side Pockets on Oldham Rd is where you might go. Also, Raytown Recreation might have some action too.

Did I say play even? Guess they don't teach in Florida the meaning of the word matchup which I used repeatedly.

And I figured a big bettor like yourself would be looking for action not just a practice table.

Besides, of the players I listed, only 1 played in this year's US Open and only that one could beat Donnie playing even as you tout on this board regularly.

Have fun in KC. Get some good bar b q and you should check out the Hallmark Museum. I think you would enjoy it.

Matlock and I have played a few times in the past. I've not seen him in probably 20 years so I would say, yes - David likely is getting old and can't see so well these days (but then again he might be lucky).

I'm not sure but what David and I didn't lock up on a snooker table when we were both just sprouts up at Rolla, Mo about 1968. I know David played there as a kid and the kid I played was already dern good. He used to run around with some guys from Joplin and I think they were all in Springfield when I last played him. Somehow he got the idea he could whoop me at snooker, offered me a 15 point spot and the backers made him pull off after 1 game.

Last time I was at Shooters (and one of only a couple of times), I had gone to see the cue maker there at the time (might have been Mike Kinder?). Anyway, he was gone for the day so I decided to eat a sandwich then head back home. Wasn't much going on there anyway. I'm sitting there eating my sandwich, minding my own business, and two guys at a table nearby asked if I would like to play some snooker. I forget what I said but one of the guys offered me a 40 point spot for fifty. :grin-square: I think he might have made 6 or 7 points the first game. Next game even, and the last game I spotted him 40... easily. Sort of liked that place but it was just too far to drive there often. :)

Another good player up in the KC area is/was Steve Hassel. Nice guy and an excellent player. Steve is getting old too. Someone else will have to fill in the blanks about where Steve played there in KC... I'm thinking Raytown??
