Keeping table clean

What's the best for keeping Simonis 860 clean guys??

Brushing just doesn't work that great.

Anyone tried the Simonis X-1

Or am I better off using a damp cloth??

Cheers,

I have the x-1 Does not seem to do much.Waste of money IMHO
Any good handheld vacuum without a rotating brush will be good.
Learn to chalk up away from the table.

dont get a vacuum with too powerful of a rating or with a beater as these features can loosen the material used to seal the seams. The vac I use has a wide attachment with a narrow opening and soft bristles

I usually vac my table first then the X-1 and that seems to do a great job then once a month I will use a barely damp microfiber cloth.

Brushing doesn't work at all. It just grinds the chalk and dirt into the cloth, and it ends up underneath the cloth.

First, vacuum good. There are a lot of alternatives.

Second, damp wipe with wash cloth, to get the rest of the surface chalk and dirt out. That also helps to keep the cloth nice and tight.

Third, wipe the rails and the pockets. Do you realize how much chalk and dirt gets there?

Fourth, get on your hands and knees. No, I'm not suggesting anything bad. Get on your hands and knees, and damp wipe all the chalk and dirt off the rails underneath the table. If not, it gets on the balls, then gets on the table, then gets on your hands, then gets on your shaft.

Clean everything.

All the best,
WW

Brushing doesn't work at all. ...snip snip snip...

Have to disagree. If you've ever brushed your table and then taken the brush (outside) and brushed off the bristles you will see a large cloud of chalk.

I'm assuming that static causes the particles to cling to the bristles. Whatever the science, it does work.

I have seen the X-1 at work, and while not miraculous, it does a nice job of picking up the chalk as well.

Many of the poolhalls use vacuums, brushes and wipe down the rails, sometimes after each customer. YMMV

Playing 2-3hrs a day, I vacuum every Saturday morn and wipe off cloth with a dry micro fiber car type towel every hr or so when playing/practicing,. Also I've tried that can of cloth cleaner all the pool sites sell but it slightly changed the color on my 860 tourney blue cloth. Not bad since no one else in my family can see it but me lol. But I'll never use it again!!

Wipe off dry micro fiber
Wipe off damp micro fiber on stubborn spots
Vaccum once a week

You're the first person I've ever seen suggest that yet it's always been a suspicion of mine. How does grinding the chalk into the cloth with a brush clean the chalk off instead of just work it in further? Still, I've just ordered a brush because it's generally a part of everybody's recommended routine.

Brushing just works it into the cloth further. You are correct. You have to have seen a table constantly brushed to realize it. Tons on chalk dust under the cloth.

All the best,
WW

Fine that you can still dust off some chalk and dirt from the brush when you take it outside.

But stop kidding yourself. Much more chalk is being ground into and underneath the cloth, as well as pockets and rails.

Vacuum and damp wipe on all surfaces, on top and underneath, not brush.

All the best,

The guy from Diamond that installed my table told me to vacuum and not brush. Brushing just
digs the chaulk and dirt into the cloth.

I have a shop vac with different attachments but haven't used it yet. Also ordered a bunch of micro fiber cloth towels from amazon.
Various brushes too.

Haven't really played much. Maybe I'll vacuum this weekend.

The Simonis x-1 only seems to pick up some of the chalk on my 860 cloth. My routine is light vacuum, then pass with X-1, then wipe with damp cloth. Takes all 3 to get job done. If I had it to do again, I would not invest in the X-1.

For picking up the lint and little hairs and crap that accumulates on the table after a week or so of sitting there, I like the lint rollers for clothes. I have one that is 7 or 8 inches wide, with a wheel that you can tear off the sticky paper when it gets used up. It takes just a minute or two to clean the whole table, it costs $10, and there is no setting anything up like with a vacuum.

I too have the X1. It might work, I'm not sure. But I certainly wouldn't spend 80 on it again, for a maybe works. Its only good for the chaulk though. It does not get the little hairs and lint in the slightest.

Vacuum and then use chalk off spray and wipe with a microfiber brush. While the table is drying run you ball polisher with a little bit of car wax. Then go behind the bar and pour yourself a nice nip of bourbon. Remove balls from the cleaner and rack em up.

This is a what a really good player I know does and his table and equipment is in top shape.

Is always good to cover your table when not in use. Hope this helps...

Yes. Brushes just move chalk, not re-move it. Vacuum and damp cloth works best. I use an X1 once or twice a session, it seems to work okay, but not great. It relies on static electricity to pick up chalk, and if it's humid out, doesn't seem to grab much. When it's dry out, it works great. My Dyson with upholstery attachment gets it all...and a damp microfiber cloth finishes. Get the buckets and rails, too with the cloth. And yes, wipe your CB with a dry cloth every rack. That thing catches and distributes chalk all over the place.

The lint rollers work well for larger stuff; even with the cover on, lint from the wife's laundry folding station seeps through to the cloth.

Vacuums are the best answer but with a HUGE CAUTION. Make sure to keep the nozzle and cloth flat on the bed, if the vacuum lifts the cloth off the bed even slightly, you will get hills of chalk dust under the cloth which is much worse than being a member of the 'clan of the blue hand' after shooting for a while on a dirty, level cloth table.

I use Quick Clean. Have been for years and when I recover the table it very little dust under it. The damp cloth will just make the chalk that is in the cloth clump up. I have seem it for years. Quick-clean.com Check it out, you will not be disappointed.

I followed a how-to post on the Onepocket.org site for removing the brush from a Shark vacuum to make the perfect small, HEPA filtered, non-destructive vac.

I run it regularly then use a damp microfiber cloth every several weeks.

Scotch Brite Lint Roller

I know a lot of people are going to flame me for this, but I've been using this for years and it works wonderfully.
I have never, ever found any sticky residue on the cloth or anywhere else on the table.
I hit the visible spots after every time I use my table and the whole table after every 5 or so times.
My cloth is close to 8 years old and still in pristine condition. In full truth, my table is covered whenever I'm not playing on it.
Trust me on this, I managed a pool hall for several years, brushing Simonis is an exercise in futility.
Vacuums are great if you don't mind seriously shortening the lifespan of the cloth...and with Simonis, that's an expensive proposition.

Don't knock it 'til you try it.
