Keith and Shane

Attaboy!

Just to let you people know, I am only 22 and this is the first time i ever play in the us open. I am very excited to watch the best players in the world to play, they all play good. I am not going to give up, I will try to come back and win the tournament. I know that I am hearing impaired and i know some people dont realized that i cant hear when i play, blocked out the distraction. :D I know keith has been around for a long time and he knows my family pretty well. Im very impressed keith was running racks after racks, and only missed a couple shots. keith plays real good for his age and he can still beat the top players. I totally respect his game. Even for his age. I thanks for all my friends that are responding on this site. :D

shane the kid
:D Shane, just got back from league night-expected to be able to see your results from today's play-not up yet. Hope you won! Am very happy with the SD (connected) players showing! Hemmah & Heuwagen still on the winners side!! Hang in there!

I think that ....

Keith has shot good at ANY age he has been at ...
That is just part of the reason he has the reputation
he has ... lol

Troubling Part

I am not as bothered as the "plays good for his age" part as much as I am bothered by the "gamble" part. Why is it that whenever a good pool player loses a match, the first words out of their mouth are, "do you wanna gamble" or "I could beat him for the cash" or "I could give that guy the 7" or "I let him win". These statements are troubling because they turn people off to pool. I know Keith McCready is a champion caliber player and that statement probably didn't affect him much, but imagine someone who is climbing up the ranks and everytime they upset a good player, they have to face public humiliation and ridicule. It's almost as if pool is the only thing that some of these top players have and when they lose, their ego is totally crushed. To save their ego, they have to verbally announce a challenge or simply put down the other player to help them feel like they're somebody again. Pretty sad IMO. From what I've heard about Shane, he is a good kid which makes his statements seem a little out of character. It's possible he is following the example that he has seen as he has started knocking off some of the best players he has faced and now this has become learned behavior. I hope, for Shane's sake, for pool's sake, and for the sake of all the people who truly love this game, that we can start a revolution of class and dignity in the pool halls of America and when people lose, they walk up to the other person, shake their hand, give them credit, and aviod the negative comments and foolish challenges that so many of us have faced.

By the way, I spoke briefly with a great player in the open after his match yesterday over text message. It went like this:
Question: How did you do in your match?
Answer: I dogged it and lost to xxxx xxxxxx. He shot good.

Now that's a classy response.

Nice post and absolutely agree.
The problem is that this epidemic runs all the way down to the local APA leagues. I can't even count how many times I've had an opponent not shake my hand, offer up every excuse in the world why he lost, and not even acknowledge how well I shot.
Almost every time I would lose to a lower ranked player I would get everyone asking me how this could happen. My was reply was always, "simple, they played well and I didn't".

Koop

Lol... I can remember when I was 18 and playing pro soccer with people whom I considered incredibly old (like 35-40). I got in trouble in exactly the same way as Shane - I really didn't think those (as I saw it) old age pensioners would mind some little digs about their age. I could see they were not as flexible and quick as I was and I felt like a superman in those days - it's simply a part of being young (although I recall calling one of them 'Grandpa' once and had to duck real quick - he wasn't quite as slow as I thought).

I'm absolutely sure Shane doesn't mean anything by it - I imagine he's sincerely impressed with just how good Keith is at what, from his perspective, he considers an extremely advanced age...

is your little saying:

I know the voices aren't real....but they have such good ideas!!!

A 'Son of Sam' quote .... actually I am just woof-ing you ... LMAO

Even if Shane did take a slight shot at Kieth insinuating he wanted to gamble what is the big fucking deal with that? Kieth is a bog boy and can handle himself in the area of trash talking and gambling as has been seen from his last 30 years. I think some of the AZbilliards railbirds who attacked SVB should maybe shut the fuck up and stop being such judgmental stuck up pricks. Good thing JC did not give his "let he whose shit dont stink be the one to cast the first stone!" Hemi or some other AZB yahoo would have already winged a couple before he was even half done the statement...

And speaking of class. There has always got to be someone on this site that has to inject extreme profanity into a thread because of his or her lack of a grasp of the English language.

Mike, you use to pull threads with out the first utterance of profanity. Many of us long for those days. You banned at least one guy who never said a word even similar to what is written above.

I thought that this was a public forum where we could all state our opinions. How uneducated are you, Celtic, to think that you can only use profanity to get your point across. I hope that you don't think that sayng 4 letter words makes you look tough, because it doesn't. Only uneducated and moronic. You seem like a really great guy, with using Jesus' name and language like you did in the same post.

If you think you are scaring or trying to buffalo Hemi or any of the rest of us, don't bother. We have been around idiots like you enough in the pool rooms over the years to know that you are all mouth.

I agree with your assessment of the board going in the gutter, Hemi. Maybe we can still carry on intelligent pool conversation on RH's board which is monitored in a decent and timely fashion.

I've been reading this thread over and over about what Shane said and what he may or may not have meant and I just don't see what the problem is, other than what has become of it. The kid obviously plays good but he got beat by Keith. He then said something about Keith playing good for his age and then it just took off from there. He didn't offer to gamble with Keith, IMO, and after I read his post the first time I didn't think his words were offensive in any way. Anyway, the kid gets back on here and apologizes for a misunderstanding that he wasn't the cause of. He spoke his mind about the match, in which he wasn't proud of his performance and admitted that it may have been due to the jitters of being on the tv table. I'm sure that if Keith had been offended by his remarks, he would have been on here to address it himself. I've never met the kid before but from what I have heard he is a nice guy and is a gentleman on or off the table. Let's not ruin that by something he said that to some, may have been a challenge to Keith. He's 22 years old, BTW, so if it was a challenge to Keith, does it really surprise any of us that a youngster would do that? Let it go, root for the kid, and be happy that we have a chance to see it live on the internet for $15. Peace, John.

Did you stamp your feet when you made that statement?

If you wanted to promote another site I think you might have tried to do it in a postive manner not the "they are decent" we are not

Or was it your mission today to slag all of AZ posters by stating we are not intelligent

Well said, is the shane vs keith match archived on billiard club to watch now?

Just wanted to let y'all know that late last evening after Keith defeated the Korean champion, Young-Hwa Jeong, he was as happy as a clam, wanting to hang out at the Chesapeake Conference Center with his family of pool friends. We were hanging out with Buddy Hall, Jerry Bento, and Billy Incardone for a spell, and if only I had a tape recorder. The conversations and reminiscing were priceless. :D

Earl Strickland looks to me as if he is having a great tournament. On the offs, he is practicing, tweaking his break and getting used to the equipment. Tonight at 9:00 p.m., Earl faces Ralf Souquet on the TV table. This will be a feature match. At each one of Earl's matches, the crowd draws near, and Earl is a shining pearl at the U.S. Open this year. During Keith's match, Keith went out front to smoke a cigarette, after the Young-Hwa Jeong requested to take a break. Earl had already shot down his man and was mingling with the fans. It's like old home week here, old friends gathering and enjoying a few laughs, and Earl seems to be having a great time.

Shane from South Dakota was hanging out inside the conference center, sweating a few matches late in the evening. When Keith saw him in the stands, he immediately went up to him and sat down. Keith likes Shane, and Shane likes Keith. They spent about a half hour or more chatting it up. There's no doubt about it that Shane is a topnotch player with a powerful punch. Not only is it his first experience at the U.S. Open, but it was also his first experience of having to play on that TV table with all eyeballs on him. It is a little intimidating, and he stated that he was slightly nervous. There ain't no hard feelings between the two of them. If anything, Keith admires the youngster, and I believe the feeling is mutual.

We're killing a little time relaxing today in our room, gearing up for the 11:00 p.m. round with Sylver from Texas. Many more AzB-ers and CCB'ers have arrived today. This is truly the place to be if you love pool. Francisco Bustamante told me last night that he thinks this tournament -- the format, the equipment and tight pockets, the people, and all of the extracurricular activities -- is a better pool experience for him personally than the WPC and other high-profile events. Everybody is relaxed and having a ball.

Ohh, did the bad words hurt your wittle ears? I see your arrogant attitude and misguided attack on a new poster as far more damaging then the post you got for it. Stop with the holier then thou attitude and personal attacks, it is far more damaging then the utterance of a few words that you hear passing by any grade school playground. We will be lucky is SVB ever posts here again because Hemi could not help but aim to belittle him in order that he minself then feels like some sort of a know it all saint.

By all means leave, but then who will Hemi be able to bully and belittle and judge over his misinformed notion of what a new poster writes? Maybe you?

And you can try to asses my intelligence based on that one post all you like, there is a 99% chance I am more educated then you based on nothing more then statistics. I have also had my IQ and apptitude tested enough times to know where I stand and am very happy with the level I am at. If you yourself were a little brighter then maybe you would realize that you cannot judge a person based on a single post they might make, as is evident from the crap that spewed forth from this board against SVB that caused many people including JAM and one of his own family members to come to his defense followed by the man himself. If you feel that this board should attack any little thing that someone might say and belittle and cut down every new poster that does not write in perfect english then by all means dont let the door hit ya on the way out.

I am not familiar with what "stamping your feet" means. And I am certainly not promoting another billiard forum. I don't want it to deteriorate into what many of the threads on this board have. And in no way did I slag or belittle the intelligence of all AZ posters. I have enjoyed many positive, intelligent conversations on this board.

And I participate in many "off color" threads here as well. They are fun. But the language in the last post should not be tolerated. And a decent board, members should have enough respect for other menbers not to even post such garbage. Do you agree that a board with children of all ages should allow such language? Do you approve of the language in Celtic's post?

Just curious.
