I know these are pointless debates, but you have to admit, fantasy matchups are always fun to talk about

so my one question is....

Keith or Jose in their respective primes...who would be your pick for the cash...and why?? I know Jose is regarded by Jay and several other posters around here to have been the best money player on the planet, but alot of other people (including myself) consider Keith to be the best there ever was in his prime. anyways, my pick goes to Keith ;) who's your pick?

Neither of them! my pick is the great Buddy Hall (The RIFLEMAN) The best for the cash & his over 200 tournament wins. He is in my opinion the greatest living player.

Between the two I would say Parica. He has lived in action for the last 20 or so years, and his hit list is quite impressive. And please don't think I am taking anything away from Kieth, I am mainly basing this on the last few times I have seen both play, which probably is unfair;) .

According to what game you are talking about I would honestly pick efren.

I've never seem him lose for the cash in the last ten years with the exclusion of his last match with scott frost.

in their prime on their best day, with out a doubt......Keith. Keith has some special thing about him with $$$(hard to explaine) but he dosent have any respect for it when he is in action, yet awalys gets it. I have seen him lose too, but there were other reasons. Jose is a great $$$ too.

On a barbox in a long ahead set? Keith.

Any other game? Probably Jose.

This is not meant to disrespect Keith at all. Keith liked a wide open game, fantastic banks, thin cuts, run packages on the box until they crap themselves type of play. Works fine on the barbox, but that type of play just doesn't work long term on the big table. Keith played the way he enjoyed playing, on the tables that were conducive to the type of game he liked to play. Nuttin wrong wit that.

i agree w/ you on the way keith liked to play, fast and furious and run packs like nobody's business. however, i think he did it the same way on every table, barbox or 9 footer, make no difference (playing 9 ball at least). I'm also with you on the fact that he'd have the edge on the box b/c he's played on it more, and Jose, along with most Filipino's, generally haven't...but I think he'd still take down the $$ for the fact that IMO, he had in his prime the highest gear of anyone out there. I just don't think too many people could deal with a young Keith when he hits that gear for the cash.

-on a sidenote, I'd really like to hear from Jay on this one since I know he's a big fan of Jose, and he's seen Keith in his prime more than once.

This one is a tough call but I'd have to agree with Russ. Keith on the barbox, for sure. Jose get the slight edge on anything else.

The Table would Decide

I think they are both fantastic players and are truly great gamblers...which in my opinion is what makes the best player. No luck involved in short set..just a long session to decide who gets the stack of cash. I think both could play very good on their own dough as well..which is true heart. That being said--- Keith in his prime versus Parica in his? Keith would beat him on the bar box with the big ball...he was simply the best at that game and gave big spots to great players on that equipment. Have Ernesto chime in on why he called Keith El Diablo when he got the 7 ball from him. He told me it was because he didnt miss on the bar boxes and that you would see him consistently put 5,6, and 7 packs on you when he got to the table. I think that Keith would be spotting the today's best bar box players back in his prime. I think Parica would have to be favored on the big tables for the cheese...in their primes. I had heard he beat some top players pretty handily...Allen Hopkins said that when he first saw Parica play Siegel (in Siegels prime) some rotation for the cash, that he beat him so easily that he thought it was a dump match (since he had never really seen Parica play before and didnt think anyone could beat Siegel like that), I havent heard of anyone beating Parica in his prime for the cash. Even past his prime he was still tough as nails. I watched him lose a match of 11 ahead for 10k trying to give Kim Davenport the 8 ball on Kims homecourt, but Kim was in his prime and playing great and Parica was coming out of retirement (he actually beat Kim with the same spot on a neutral table about a month earlier). Keith was definitely all gamble and would not dog it, but just think on the big box he would be the underdog..not to say he couldnt win some sessions because of his ability to put packages on people but if they played ten times then I think Parica would win the majority of the time

Just my opinion

Didn't they already play each other a thousand times back in the day?????
Maybe I'm just suffering from CRS again!

no-sho= can't remember sh#t

Keith or Jose...?

I'll say Keith Josey.

Keith or Jose for the Cash

I have seen Keith do some incredible things. His top gear is amazing and NOBODY wanted any part of it. In rollout I feel his was King. He would shoot nearly impossible shots like they were in front of the pocket.

Bar Table - Keith
Big Table - Jose
Both - Buddy
I believe the table has no bearing on how you play for the money. I played keith in about 1977. He never missed a ball for 8 or 9 hours. they opened the back door at Lamberts tournament room in Baton Rouge to sweep out in the morning and it got wet, then he missed only one. We were play fairly high. We started racing to 5 for $1000.00 a set and ended for $5000.00 a set. He was betting "his own". I don't know Jose, but know the philipinos are almost always staked. Does he ever be his own ?

I agree all the way. I have a ton of respect for Jose and all he's accomplished in his career, I mean, the man pretty much not only set the bar, but he opened the door for a whole country of killers to come here to play. Nevertheless, I still would have to say my cash would be on Keith. All accomplishments aside, when both these guys were in their respective primes, they gave weight to the champions of champions and went out gunnin' for em...and Keith was only a kid! I like Jose, but when a young, focused Keith hits his high gear, I just can't see a reason to be against him. Anyways, Merry Christmas to everyone ;)
