Keith vs. Parica '03

Just watched the accustats match from the '03 US Open. Keither played great, just like the good old days, except he hung a 9-ball when he was up 9-4 to get on the hill in a race to 11. Jose made a small comeback but Keith hung in there and finished it up 11-7, shooting something like a .945. What was really neat, though, was seeing JAM and all the genuine affection she had in her eyes as she watched him pull off a big, big win. Very, very cool.
:p

Another good one is McCready V. McCreesh...same year, I do believe.

I don't think JAM liked that round, being a road partner with the both of them around that time

IIRC:o:wink:

That "McCreesh vs. McCready" -- love that tag line -- was the very first round of the entire U.S. Open that year, and they put it on TV table to boot.

Keith was like a cat with a long tail in a room full of rocking chairs. We had just gotten back a few weeks earlier from the Carolinas Open where Buddy Hall lectured Keith about his behavior when playing pool and enjoying fine spirits. :o

Our agreement thereafter was that I'd go to the U.S. Open, sacrifice 8 days of my job with no income, spend $2,500 for tournament expenses, as long as Keith promised to do one thing, and that was play au naturel. And I don't mean naked either.

Ryan came out of the gate like a rocket. Keith struggled as he was sipping his clear bottle of H20. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Jimmy Reid slip Keith a small drink, what looked to me like a Coca-Cola. Keith immediately started to play a little looser, seeming more comfortable, but it was too late. Ryan won the match, knocking Keith to the B side of the chart.

It was a bittersweet feeling for me because I was happy for Ryan, but just wish the two of them didn't draw each other for the first round. Back home, the two of them were constant companions, playing many a partner game of one-pocket over at USA Billiards in Laurel against Seth, Jerry Slivka, Bobby Hawk, Freddie Boggs, and a whole slew of local action players.

What happened to that Seth? He was good action, always willing to bet it high.

Oh, yeah, I later found out that the reason Keith's game picked up a little against Ryan that TV table round was because dear Jimmy Reid, Keith's buddy, slipped him a Coke and rum. He'd have been better just giving him a beer because Keith doesn't usually drink liquor. But I guess in these circumstances, with Keith not playing his speed against Ryan, liquor is quicker. :grin-square:

I have that match on Accu-Stats as well, I had to purchase it when I heard he was playing like the "old Keith". Very enjoyable match, and he did indeed play great. We also got to see a glimpse of Jam.

Wait, I think I was in the front row. Nothing about the affection in my eyes????

Fred <~~~ maybe it was an "infection"

Might as well throw a picture in. This was Ryan and Keith at a Joss tournament in Yankee Country somewhere. Keith had just about the same expression on his face at the end of that match he played against Ryan at the U.S. Open, too. :grin-square:

Here's another cute shot of Mike Davis, Ryan, and Keith at Turning Stone. :)

Keith made 15 dimes throwing dice that year. Keith knows how to throw them dice, I tell you.

Every pit boss was at Keith's dice table. He just couldn't miss. And there was a huge crowd of onlookers eyeballing him as he was throwing the dice. Everybody was hooting and hollering, and Keith was eating it up. He has a nice, long winning streak. Fun times and came home with full pockets. :grin-square:

I'm pretty sure that was 2004 because 2003 Keith stayed on the winner's side until the semifinals.

Funny, in the interview after the match with Parica, Keith said it was '04...I had to check the cover of the dvd to be sure what I was watching.

I love your avatar. What an adorable pooch! :lovies:

Keith probably did say '04 because when he played Jose in 2003, he was definitely feeling no pain, believe you me. :o

Parica was 2003, though, and Ryan was 2004. :)

Yankee country?? You guys were in da Bronx??

I think you're right, Jennie (the match wasn't 2003). In 03, Keith went undefeated til he lost the hotseat to Jeremy Jones (IIRC).

Everything north of the Mason-Dixon line to me is Yankee Country. :grin-square:
