Kids and Carom

It is not a stretch to say that 3 cushion has had better times in terms of popularity.

I teach a billiards class in an after school program. Today I spent the last 10 minutes of one class explaining the rules of 3 cushion and demonstrating a few shots. Several of the kids expressed real interest in the game. Last week they were really interested when I explained straight rail.

I find this to be encouraging. If I get the space at this school to put a carom table I will definitely add one.

:)
I would like to say, 3 cushion is an extremely hard game in comparison to most other billiard games. Whereas almost every single person I know, including myself, starts learning with free/no rail, just straight point game. It is much simpler compared to any pool game. Just hit both the other two balls with your ball. Can't be simpler. I would say, why not start by teaching that, instead of 3 cushion?!?!? :D

Edit: My apologies, I see that you are teaching straight rail (is that same with free libre/no rail needed type game? my apologies, i am not familiar with carom terms, at least for the ones in the U.S
Way to go! America needs its own 3C champion!

I personally applaud your efforts, I think that 3-Cushion is a great game and it is terrible to think of the state that it is currently in. I have a 1940's Brunswick 3-Cushion Table in my pool room, and while it doesn't get the play of my pocket tables I would never remove it.

Take care

I teach 3-C at the room where I play locally and I have been interested in teaching a carom class for several years, either for high school or college. If you are willing, please tell me how you go about teaching your class, and how you convinced the school to allow you to do it. You can PM me if you wish. Thanks.

PM sent. Easier to explain via telephone.

3 cushion

I think it's the greatest game played on a table and I personaly think the game will help everyone involved to realize how to get along with everyone. FastEddie F. says keep up trying to introduce more people to the sport.

Tap tap tap to Mnorwood and Bruce for helping to teach young people this beautiful game.
